It might have sounded quite reasonable to David Brooks and his tight circle of media friends but to most of the rest of us, using the term "ESPN Masculinity" to describe President Obama is just flat out hilarious. Brooks performs a comedy encore at the end of The ESPN Man story in the New York Times with his psychobabble description of Obama's "manliness." These supposed traits listed by Brooks are the reasons why he claims Obama remains somewhat popular despite a lousy economy.
First, let us go right to the ESPN Man money quote:
Normally, presidents look weak during periods of economic stagnation, overwhelmed by events. But Obama has displayed a kind of ESPN masculinity: postfeminist in his values, but also thoroughly traditional in style — hypercompetitive, restrained, not given to self-doubt, rarely self-indulgent. Administrations are undone by scandal and moments when they look pathetic, but this administration, guarded in all things, has rarely had those moments.

ESPN first aired their groundbreaking Outside The Lines special, "The World of the Gay Athlete," on Dec. 16, 1998. They followed that with a second OTL special, "The Gay Dilemma," on June 3, 2001.
Luke Cyphers from ESPN The Magazine and ESPN producer Craig Lazarus participated in the first Gay and Lesbian Athletics Foundation conference in March of 2003.
ESPN was a sponsor of the Gay Games in 2006, and ESPN Mobile sponsored a basketball team that participated in the Games; That team was captained by openly gay former ESPN The Magazine basketball editor LZ Granderson.
ESPN has recruited at conferences for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association since 2004.
ESPN aired a five-minute segment over Memorial Day Weekend 2005 about Andrew Goldstein, the openly gay lacrosse goalie at Dartmouth (incidentally, they got the story from Outsports).
ESPN was honored at the 2006 Commercial Closet's Images in Advertising Award for "Outstanding Business-To-Business/Trade Ad."

When I think of ESPN, the first image that comes to mind is athletes with egos the size of Texas. For me, the comparison fits Mr. I-Me-My-MineObama.
Dennis Prager has been noticing that the whole thrust of leftist culture is to eliminate all distinctions between men and women.
So a woman can be just as ESPN Masculine as Barry and ESPN Femine is exactly equal to ESPM Masculine.
