I’m not a fan of Billy Graham, but truth is truth, no matter who says it. Caiaphas for example. We are at a place in our nation where we are by comparison making Sodom and Gomorrah look like rank amateurs in the art of evil. I really don’t think God is somehow going to miss that. He’s very good at details.
As for Billy G., I think he did slip left a bit over time. But his comments about Hillary come to him in his advanced years. Perhaps, just as a theoretical possibility, maybe he really didn’t fully grasp who Hillary was, ideologically speaking. He has been such an optimist he is probably inclined to overlook flaws in others, even when it goes against his better judgment, and especially at a stage of life where he must rely ever more heavily on input from those around him. I know he doesn’t get a pass for it, because of who he is. But I do know elderly people in my own life who, under those conditions, could easily have misjudged a person through wishful thinking, with no malice whatsoever at the root of it.
I think Billy never wanted to be considered as partisan, so he chose his battles in a manner that he would be considered more balanced.
