Having worked with, lived with, grown up with, and, God help me, even slept with those claiming to be liberals and leftists, this kind of statement is a dead giveaway that the speaker is doctrinaire leftist. One of the famous conceits of the left is their never-ending rant about how they are the ones who are balanced (therefore “bipartisan”) and how they’re not really political (sometimes expressed as their bastard child, “everyone is political,” and sometimes expressed by their cynical bastard child, “they’re all to blame.”)
Ideas provide motivation for actions. Anyone telling they’re not motivated by their beliefs is lying to you and sometimes themselves.
Right up there with the seminar callers who start out with “I’m a lifetime Republican, but.....”
