Romney backs away from gay adoptions [Friday night, after endorsing Thursday]

(CBS News) Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday backed away from his support of adoptions by same-sex couples, saying that he simply "acknowledges" the legality of such adoptions in many states.

A day earlier, Romney, in an interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, had indicated that while he does not support same-sex marriage, he considers the adoption of children by same-sex couples a "right."

He said on Thursday: "And if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, or even to adopt a child -- in my state individuals of the same sex were able to adopt children. In my view, that's something that people have a right to do. But to call that marriage is something that in my view is a departure from the real meaning of that word."

But then on Friday, he was asked, in an interview with CBS' WBTV in Charlotte, N.C., how his opposition to same-sex marriage "squared" with his support for gay adoptions. Romney told anchor Paul Cameron, "Well actually I think all states but one allow gay adoption, so that's a position which has been decided by most of the state legislators, including the one in my state some time ago. So I simply acknowledge the fact that gay adoption is legal in all states but one."

His “passion?” LOL, his passion is power, plain and simple. And his religious upbringing taught him contempt for the very evangelical Christians he was speaking to.

What, Robomney thinks no one will remember or there is no record of what he just said? How can any one support this guy? He's a narcissist!! Lies about what he just said! I just saw a someone (wish I remembered who said it) of what narcissists are like. They constantly lie right to your face and then reverse and lie the opposite way in five minutes. This man is 100% untrustworthy. Except that we can trust he'll be a total disaster if somehow he is forced down our craw as the nominee.

I live in VA, a battleground state. My choice is between Romney and Obama. The difference is quite clear to me as to who presents the greatest danger to this Republic and it is not Romney.

Obama has made it quite clear where he stands on such issues as gay rights, abortion, organized religion, and a host of other social issues.

Just as importantly, we also know where he stands on the welfare state, budget deficits, the national debt, amnesty, the use of our national energy resources, and national security (he needs some flexibility until after his reelection to deal with Putin.)

We also know of his connections to domestic terrorists like Ayers and Dohrn, his mentoring by Frank Marshall Davis, his 20 year relationship with Rev Wright who married him and baptized his daughters, and Van Jones. Obama hates this country and has bowed and scraped all over the world apologizing for us. He doesn't even want to mention that Islamic fundamentalism represents a major threat to this nation. And he continues with his open borders policy and backdoor amnesty of 300,000 who have been ordered deported by the courts.

I am not going to change your beliefs. Please vote your conscience and principles. I will do the same. We will just agree to disagree.

Too bad, you missed one of the best speeches I have ever heard him give. Heartfelt. You could see his passion, a product no doubt of his religious upbringing and missionary background. He struck just the right tone not getting too political although his statement that marriage was between a man and a woman got a standing and prolonged ovation. .
