What Mitt Romney Hasn't Done...

RUSH: I'll tell you, here's what I know. Here's what I know, and this is after only an hour of... and, by the way, you must know, I have to tell you what this feels like. Guilt. I only did an hour of show prep, but I feel like I'm skipping school today. I feel like I'm not fulfilling expectations, so we'll see. This is what I know. Mitt Romney was not at Chappaquiddick. Mitt Romney has not been accused of rape. Mitt Romney did not have an affair with a mob babe. He didn't have an affair with an actress who committed suicide later on. Mitt Romney did not father a child out of wedlock. Mitt Romney did not support the tapping of Martin Luther King's phone. Mitt Romney was never a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Mitt Romney did not lie about his law school grades.

Chappaquiddick is Ted Kennedy. Accused of rape is Bill Clinton. Affair with the mob babe and an actress, John Kennedy. Didn't father a child out of wedlock, that's John Edwards and Democrats too numerous to mention. Didn't support the tapping of Martin Luther King's phone, that's Robert Kennedy. Never a member of the Ku Klux Klan, that's Robert Byrd. Didn't lie about his law school grades, that's Joe Biden. All Democrats, and all of those Democrats did those things well after high school. And Obama even wrote in his book Dreams from My Father how he bullied a young girl. And he hasn't even apologized. Grab audio sound bite number six. The audio book version, Dreams from My Father, originally published in print, by the way, 1995. Then-Senator Barack Obama in his book said this about a time he bullied a young classmate named Coretta.

OBAMA: Her name was Coretta, and before my arrival she had been the only black person in our grade. She was plump and dark and didn't seem to have many friends. I ran up to Coretta and gave her a slight shove. She staggered back and looked up at me, but still said nothing. "Leave me alone," I shouted again. And suddenly Coretta was running, faster and faster until she disappeared from sight. Appreciative laughs rose around me. For the rest of the afternoon I was haunted by the look on Coretta's face.

RUSH: Yeah. So Obama admits to bullying a young girl, still hasn't apologized for it. The Washington Post hasn't dug deep. The Washington Post hasn't tried to find her. The Washington Post hasn't tried to find her family. The Washington Post hasn't alleged that Coretta was a lesbian. The Post hasn't alleged that there was any presumed anti-gay bias in Obama's bullying. Same book, Dreams from My Father, this about Obama and his time in high school in Hawaii.

OBAMA: I spent the last two years of high school in a daze, locking away the questions that life seemed insistent on posing. I kept playing basketball, attended classes sparingly, drank beer heavily, and tried drugs enthusiastically. I discovered that it didn't make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate's sparkling new van or in the dorm room with some brother you'd met down at the gym, or on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids who had dropped out of school and now spent most of their time looking for an excuse to brawl.

RUSH: I discovered it didn't make any difference. So we have an admitted bully, an admitted user of alcohol and cocaine, and even at that, there has not yet been any energy whatsoever expended to try to find out any more about this. No, what do we have? A practically made-up story about Mitt Romney starting yesterday in the Washington Post, back at the prestigious, distinguished Cranbrook school. Idyllic place. Romney found this long-haired blond guy, said, "I don't like long hair like that," pinned the guy down, beat him up, sat on him. The guy was so devastated he commits suicide later. I mean that was basically the story. Romney apologized and apologized and apologized. ABC News led the news with it last night.

"A family member of the classmate whom Mitt Romney allegedly bullied in high school says she has no knowledge of the incident, according to news reports. Christine Lauber, the older sister of former Romney classmate John Lauber, has told ABC News she was at college when the incident allegedly occurred while her brother, John, and Romney attended high school at the Cranbrook School, in Bloomfield, Mich. The Washington Post story Thursday states Romney and at least one other classmate held down, then cut off the long, bleached-blond hair on Lauber, who was presumed to be gay," but the family says all these presumptions about the guy in the story are wrong. They don't specify which presumptions are wrong. They just say that the caricature of this guy in the story is not correct, and they're upset about it. The guy's dead. He can't defend himself, and so what's happened here is the media, in typical left-wing fashion, has taken a couple of people, set out and just destroyed 'em, all for the purposes of advancing some really silly, pathetic -- and, by the way, this is not an accident.

This story has been waiting in the wings for Obama to announce that he wasn't gonna do anything different on gay marriage. Which is what he did. I'm reading reports of the fundraiser at the Clooney estate last night. Exactly what I thought would happen. They all sat around, applauded each other, applauded Obama, talked about how great it was. Nothing's different. There is not a shred of change in gay marriage policy in this country, and Obama didn't make a shred of change. But it doesn't matter, because we don't look at results; we look at intentions. So all these people are feeling really good about themselves, but in the meantime, how pathetic is this? Literally pathetic. This is all they've got. And this is something that they have obviously been waiting and holding in reserve.

I'm convinced, folks, it's all part of a conceived strategy waiting for execution with a timeline. The only thing that's gone wrong here is that the family member of this classmate that Romney allegedly bullied is now saying it didn't happen. Ah, that's not a big problem, is it? It didn't happen. Family member says she doesn't remember anything about this. She didn't hear anything about this. "I don't remember that incident," Romney said. "And I'll tell you I certainly don't believe that I ... thought the fellow was homosexual. That was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 1960s, so that was not the case."

"Ms. Lauber, of South Bend, Ind., said she and her sisters will likely issue a statement later today through their attorney. She also said that if her brother were alive 'he would be furious' about the story. Ms. Lauber told ABC her brother was a 'very unusual person.' 'He didn’t care about running with the peer group,' she said. 'What’s wrong with that? Even if it did happen, John probably wouldn’t have said anything,' Ms. Lauber added." The sister didn't know about it.

But I'm still struck by the fact that's it's such a pathetic, I mean, really, is this all they've got? No, I'm serious. I'm sitting here, correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am on this, I'm sitting here, I can't imagine this being effective with one person who's undecided about anything. I know I'm wrong. I know that this country's full of people who, hell, want to ban football, for crying out loud. Cutting off a blond kid's hair is probably worse than anything that happens on the football field with some people, I can imagine.

In the meantime, the Rasmussen tracking poll's out, and Obama's down 50-43. That's the news.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: By the way, there are a couple of other family members of Mr. Lauber speaking out. Betsy Lauber, one of John Lauber's three sisters, spoke with ABC News. "The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family."

I’m old enough to remember the 1957 Rambler station wagon my Dad loved, pulling a small family trailor all over these western states.

(And I agree the Gremlin and Pacer were ugly beyond comparison, until the Pontiac Aztek came along. With a few exceptions, the US auto industry lost its magic after the glorious 50s, 60s)

I remember the Gremlin but wanted an AMX. High school buddy bought one and burned the tires right off. Then rebuilt the engine and took off without any oil - either forgot or drain plug fell out. Don’t remember much of the car after that.

Romney doesn’t talk like a democrat he just acts like one.. Which is......... the problem...

No, the problem is that too many Republicans want a Democrat pretending to be a Republican, which is why Romney is where he is. Anybody who votes for him is just looking for an excuse to vote for a liberal.

Maybe neither here nor there in the scheme of thousands of lies, but here he is in his supposedly first year at Punahou, Grade Five, the teacher is Mabel Hefty and the children are all colours of the rainbow, so which one was singled out because her skin was dark? Another one of Bill Ayers recollections that found its way into 'Dreams' I bet.

Well you see, Obama’s record matters, but Romney’s record doesn’t matter. At least that’s the way some Romney supporters act.

What do you mean by that? There are any number of ‘coloured’ children in that first year he attended Punahou, which one would he have chosen to bully?
I’m inclined to believe it’s more likely the class photograph wasn’t available to the author when that paragraph was written. ‘Coretta’ seems an odd name for a girl of polynesian/japanese/filipino background, don’t you think?
‘Coretta’ sounds more like a memory of Ayres than a recollection of zero. I’m NOT defending zero, but the correct context is important.
Zero WAS NOT the second coloured child to attend that class.

So what are you suggesting a GOP rally at the NY morning shows, ABC, CBS, NBC? Call them out for their corruption or is it negligence or both? Then again, if folks can’t travel to NY, maybe rallies at the local affiliates? Or even local news offices? Wonder if the msn would even cover it or if they cover it would they honestly present it or brand it with their delusional mantra of “wicked, evil tea party supporters”?

Congratulations! You hit my perfect trifecta of ugly cars. I swore up and down the Pacer was the UGLIEST thing I had ever seen (uglier even than "The Thing"), then I saw my first Aztek. LOL on wheels!

Coretta was the name of Martin Luther Kind’s wife IIRC. Ayers was using a classic (in his mind) “black” name. More mythology....It’s a very unusual name, never read or heard of it attached to any other human.

You’re spot-on as usual imo. There’s Ayres needing a ‘classical’ name for a negro girl-child, and what flashes through his mind but Coretta!

But as every lie has an iota of truth - it’s not hard to understand where this one came from. It would have been Ayres himself who was the bully, it’s an incident he remembers from his own childhood.

The class photograph must have come to light after the book was written. He’s so smart he’s outsmarted himself on numerous occasions. He must have thought Hawaii was full if white people...or that only whites sent their children to Punahou and zero was an anomaly.
