Time magazine is out with its latest cover, one thats sure to get its fair share of attention. Headlined Are You Mom Enough?, it features a blonde, skinny jean-wearing woman and a preschool-age boy unmistakably latched on to her breast.
The cover goes with the magazines feature story on attachment parenting a philosophy designed to foster a secure bond to the child. Co-sleeping, or the family bed, and breastfeeding well past babyhood are sometimes the hallmarks of attachment parenting.
The mother pictured on the cover is Jamie Lynne Grumet of Los Angeles and her 3-year-old son.
I dont consider breastfeeding immodest at allIm not shy about doing it in public, she told Time.
Note: go to the site and vote in the poll.
The kid is getting too old to be breastfeeding. At some point breastfeeding becomes nothing more than a sexual experience for the mom and later on for both of them.
There was a movie out of Spain a few years ago about a 9-year old boy who crossed the county seeking the perfect breast to suck. It was pure breast porn involving a child.
All I can say after looking at the pic is wow.
It’s absolutely revolting and offensive.
That is not a baby at her breast by any stretch of the imagination.
Disgusting.
Togas in the senate are next.
I went to a “libertarian family website” and noticed that a lot of posts had to do with things like ‘when does it stop being okay to sleep nude with the kids’?
seriously.
The answer was: when one of them objects.
The same site stated its beliefs that children are just like adults and have the same rights to sex and drinking and drugs and porn at ANY AGE. In other words, anything goes-including incest.
It looked like an abandoned website, I found a few like it, but they apparently have gone deeper underground.
She’s only doing it to stay skinny. As soon as she quits, she’s gonna blow up like a balloon.
It’s so disgusting, it’s perverted and nothing short of pedophilia being mainstreamed. All out Sodom.
Why am I thinking “Oreo”?
TIME Magazine has been dying for years. I believe the only attention and publicity TIME magazine gets now is from Conservatives ripping on it.
If we ignore it, it WILL go away.
He owes her a dollar, at least.
Like Stan used to say on South Park, “Dude, this is pretty f’d up, right here.”
LOL!!!
You only want to breast feed to that age and slightly beyond if you are living in a “famine” situation and the food is limited and you want to give your child the best nutrition for their developing brain.
This is beacue if the SHTF the amount of fats and especially protein availble for consumption may go down and it is better for the mom to be feeding their children the fats and proteins in breast milk should the only food that is left is nothing but carb rich food that is not good for a developing kid.
Thus this sorta nursing is something that you only see in third world countries, which means we will see it in our country (by nessisity) soon......
Unless the woman represents the State and the child represents American citizens, this is not a good magazine cover.
The photo showed Jamie Lynne Grumet, 26, a stay-at-home mom in Los Angeles who says her mother breastfed her until she was 6 years old. She told the magazine in an interview that shes given up reasoning with strangers who see her son nursing and threaten to call social services on me or that its child molestation.
People have to realize this is biologically normal, she said, adding, The more people see it, the more itll become normal in our culture. Thats what Im hoping. I want people to see it.
She’s mentally ill.
On the other hand there are good medical reasons for mother and child to encourage breast feeding of a “baby.”
Delaying the weaning of a child to the age shown on the cover of Time Magazine (suppose to be 3, but he looks older than that) should (unless real solid medical reasons) be worth a a chat with a mental health professional or else a call to Child Protective Services.
One of the health benefits for the mother is that while nursing she actually looses fat cells, which may be part of the reason for the skinny jeans on the cover model mother.
Personally as the father of two who were breastfed by their mother, the standard medical advice of breastfeed for 6 months and then introduce solid food, sounds like a pretty good approach. Especially, since babies start teething typically around 6 months. Breastfeeding a 3 year old doesn't seem right to me.
