Exactly the same attitude as among the Catholic clergy when this all started coming out. Far more important to protect the institution or community than to protect children.
Very sad. I understand the concern about false accusations ruining someone’s life. That is a real issue. The answer is not to enforce silence, it’s to develop better ways of separating false from true accusations.
The thick body of ritual law that these people take to govern their lives might be ill equipped for this new challenge. So they fall back on plain old fallen, sinful human soddenness.
Which again goes to show, the law cannot save.
