Biden went off script and they decided to let Obama ‘come out of the closet’ at this time as his ‘evolution’ was getting untenable. The original game plan was for Obama to stay ambigious and ‘come out’ in the 2nd term, when the backlash wouldnt matter.
Biden’s foot-in-mouth disease force Obama to come out of the closet 6 months earlier than planned. He was ‘evolving’ to cater to his gay donors and patrons but wanted the ambiguity in place to straddle voters.
