Thankfully, our long national nightmare is over:
Mitt Romney apologized on Thursday morning for pranks he helped orchestrate in high school that he said might have gone too far, including an incident in which he pinned down a fellow student and cut his hair.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee was responding to an article published a few hours earlier by The Washington Post documenting the episode with first-hand accounts from Romneys classmates.
Back in high school, I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that, Romney said in a live radio interview with Fox News Channel personality Brian Kilmeade. Romney added: I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school and some might have gone too far and for that, I apologize.
Romneys campaign hastily scheduled the radio interview for the candidate to call in from Omaha, where he is holding a campaign event later Wednesday, to respond to The Posts report.
Politically speaking, this was the smart thing to do. Other campaigns would have tried challenging the veracity of the stories and/or the motives of the witnesses, but that’s a losing proposition. The more a campaign debates those points, the longer the story goes, and the more legitimacy it has in the media. Instead, the Romney campaign made it an old story before it began to grow legs by just expressing remorse over any cruelty that may have taken place in high school.
I eagerly await the next set of stories about how in middle school Romney refused to give cuts in line to kids from low-income families, or how he shamelessly violated the “exies-no-erasies” rule in elementary school with his female classmates.
Not necessarily directed towards you.... Yours was the last post when I posted
No. A lot of bullies and sociopaths do well in finance. That's just a fact.
I'm no fan of Romney...but you are going to deem a person unfit for office...based on some stupid action/prank they took when they were in their teens????
Not based on the pranks, but what they may reveal about his character. As I said, I'd want to see some sign that the person now has some degree of empathy for other people, that they understand what the Golden Rule is all about. I think it is appropriate that Romney is trying to indicate this.
Obviously there are many historical examples that show that people with a lack of moral sense should not hold power. From raising children, I have seen that the moral character develops very early.
Some days I wish there was more filter here :)
Except when my picture post comments disappear HA_Ha
The incident also reveals his cowardice — he had to organize a posse to back him up rather than confront the other guy head-to-head like a man.
IT WAS FRICKIN' HIGH SCHOOL!
Some people become spineless with age; others are born that way. I guess Mittens falls into the latter category.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So you like Romney because
1) HE RAISES TAXES AND LIES ABOUT IT.
2) HE INSTALLED DEATH PANELS AND LIES ABOUT IT.
3) HE INVENTED AND INSTALLED GAY MARRIAGE AGAINST
THE MASS CONSTITUTION .. AND LIES ABOUT IT
4) HE COVERED UP THE BIG DIG AND LIES ABOUT IT
OR
5) HE IS A DOG ABUSER AND LIES ABOUT IT
OR
6) HE WAS ALSO A TERRIBLE GOVERNOR AND LIES ABOUT IT.
Want another thirty points?
The stakes are way too high. It's gonna be Obama or Romney. Period. There's too much at stake to not vote for Romney- that's my opinion
Nice Dem talking points... Dog abuser? Wow
Nice Dem talking points... Dog abuser? Wow
Dog abuser?
What do you call it? 650 miles, 12 hours on the freeway, when the dog gets sick from it, Romney hoses off the diarrhea from the car, the dog, the cage, then he puts the wet dog back up there and continues, they then got rid of that dog, or as is claimed, two of the Romney boys say that the dog ran off forever when they arrived in Canada at the end of the trip.
Who's facts? Yours?
Once again....change your name to narrowminded....it fit's better.
I can honestly say that if I had been there as a fellow teen, Romney would have been stopped cold in his tracks (and yes, I was the type that could enforce that claim), I could never stand bullies, and would never tolerate a violent one like Romney evidently was, this puts that cop incident in perspective.
Damn Kenyan Marxist is destroying our country and you bring up one incident from decades ago... Really, just want Obama and his minions want us to do... Distract from the disastrous record of the POtuS
We all know Romney is an ass. But we also have a major election coming up with our nations future at stake. 2 Supreme Court Justices probably at stake.
Who will be best to pick them? We have 2 choices it appears.
Try to stay on topic, I merely corrected the dog story, it was abusive, the dog was made sick and ran away because of it.
Ok fair enough... Still doesn’t rate in the 100,000 of issues I consider when voting
“most electable” bump
Wow, so you are saying she turn out to be your best friend after you pinned her down when you removed her shoe while her eyes filling with tears, screamed for help? And all this started because she non-conformed to the surroundings. The word prank is being used loosely to say the least.
