Almost four years ago, I was watching Sarah Palin rile up a Clearwater, Fla., crowd with anti-Obama broadsides when a spectator let loose a bloodcurdling cry of "kill him!"
To his credit, John McCain realized the Obama hatred was getting out of hand, and a few days later, when a woman at one of his events called Obama an "Arab," McCain did one of the most honorable things in his political career. "No, ma'am," he said, taking the microphone from the woman and enduring some boos from supporters. "He's a decent, family-man citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues."...
The latest sign of trouble came Monday, when a woman speaking at a Mitt Romney event in Euclid, Ohio, said that Obama was operating outside of the Constitution and "should be tried for treason". Many in the crowd of 500 applauded this call for the commander in chief of the United States to be charged with a capital offense.
But Romney didn't push back against this outrage...
Days earlier, Romney made scant effort to defend one of his aides, Richard Grenell, who had been hired only weeks before to serve as a foreign policy spokesman. Conservative groups complained noisily because Grenell is openly gay. Romney declined to push back publicly against the conservatives, and Grenell resigned.
This followed Romney's unfortunate response two months ago to Rush Limbaugh's claim that a Georgetown University student who testified about birth control was a "slut" and a "prostitute." The candidate declined to rebuke Limbaugh, saying only that "it's not the language I would have used."
Some take Romney's reticence to challenge the right as evidence that he is the "severe conservative" he claimed to be. I suspect it has more to do with weakness...

Hmmm: “...when a spectator let loose a bloodcurdling cry of ‘kill him!’”
Gee, wasn’t that rather thoroughly debunked? No audio, video? No recollection of it by the cops and security personell on the scene? Just another of those “fake-but-accurate” tales, repeated by the worthless fraud Dana Milbank and his pals at the rapidly dwindling WaPo.
Perhaps they’ll regale us once more about the racist Tea Party hurling racist epithets at the brave, valiant Nancy Pelosi and her ‘rat stalwarts as they marched through the crowd at the Capitol to vote Obamacare down our throats...*
(*Yes, there is some sarcasm there...)
I'll vote for a conservative.

Romney is now the offical punching bag for the MSM, the DNC and about half of Free Republic.
...and you find conservatives to be crackpots and troublemakers?
That’s quitter talk.
Did you even read the article, moron? By “not standing up to his party”, Romney would be tacitly agreeing with the audience member and nearly everyone on FR.
What was your screen name before you got banned?
Yep, I watched that and its the point I knew that McCain was going to lose badly and was working for the other side.
Speaking of rank...
Speak of that when he has enough undisputed delegates. It ain't over till the fat lady sings at the convention.

Couldn’t agree more. I have never seen a politician so weak and I’ve been voting since Goldwater.
Can we just get past the upcoming 2012 nightmare and get to 2016 please?
What Rush Limbaugh said was correct, and he needed no chastising from the likes of Romney. As far as the comments he did not rebuke, why should he have. Barrack Obama has made it quite clear that he does not have the best interest of America at heart. If anything showed any weakness it was not defending Limbaugh and not agreeing with the protesters.
Romney is spineless, but this isn't the proof of it. I get tired of spineless Republicans who bash Rush Limbaugh just to appease the media, at least Romney didn't do that.
They want Romney to kill his chances against the Kenyan like dummy McLame did. Will liberal Mittens bite? Ofcourse he will! Before it’s over he’ll be trying to out marxist the Kenyan.
Someone in that campaign needs to find their lips and drop some quotes from Obama’s people at OWS, NOI and gay radicals. Make him and his media distance themselves from their own haters.
That is not leadership -that is tyranny.
Romney will never be a leader REGARDLESS your hope he would slap down a patriot and in essence kiss Obama's ass like McCain did so eloquently 4 years prior...
And McCain, like Luger and many other RINOs, is only gracious to those to the Left of him. Against conservative opponents, he has demonstrated that he can be savage.
Dana Milbank must be happy Obama is now for gay marriage.
