President Obama today announced that he now supports
same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure
from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president
described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place,
based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian
service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.
"I have to tell you that over the course of several
years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about
members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous
relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I
think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there
fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't
Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at
a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for
me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get
married,” Obama told Roberts, in an interview to appear on ABC’s “Good Morning

“Well, when these issues were raised in my state of Massachusetts, I indicated my view, which is I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name,” Romney said, per Fox31 Denver News. “My view is the domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not.” “

His base is as loud as they are narrow.
Yeah, evolving goes in one direction and devolving goes in the opposite direction. This should be no surprise to anyone, it was just a matter of when.
Obama has thought about gay marriage for a couple years vs 2000+ years of history.
America has advanced beyond any other country in two and half centuries and its not good enough for Obama. He’s going to singlehandedly change it in several years.
It will be interesting to see what his pole (sic) numbers do after this. I imagine all the pulpits around the country speaking directly to this Sunday. This will not go over well in the Bible belt.

This may put the final nail in Obama’s coffin, and opens up a HUGE opportunity for Romney if he is smart enough to run with it.
This may be an Obama strategery, to make Mitt flip on this topic.
I wonder if he did this because he knows he is in trouble.
The real battle is now congress.
If I were gay (I'm not), I would be very teed off at Obama for waiting to make this announcement. If he'd done this before the election, it might've swung some votes.
He (dare I say it?) screwed the GLBT folks.

Doubt it. I cannot even begin to tell you how many people I have known for decades who I NEVER EVER EVER EVER would have imagined would have EVER supported such a thing who have told me in the last 2 or 3 years that they now support gay marriage.
I do not know what has occurred but a deep level of brainwashing has gone on here. I think this is something we are destined to lose.
