The losses at Oprah Winfrey's stumbling cable channel are approaching a staggering $330 million, according to a report.
And now industry insiders are predicting that the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) will not be able to survive another year if it does not find a hit show and make a dramatic turnaround.
Discovery, which partnered 50-50 with Winfrey to launch the network and has been underwriting its costs, has invested nearly $600 million in it since 2008, according to a report in Businessweek magazine over the weekend.
But since it started on the air in January 2011, "OWN may have lost as much as $330 million," it reported.
The magazine quotes one Wall Street media analyst calling the channel the most "successful failure in television today."
David Zaslav, Discovery Communications' CEO who talked Winfrey into the idea of OWN, is famously impatient with money-losing operations within his company.

Dammit, this story would have to break on the day my 3” long violin is in the shop for repairs.
Even if something looks interesting I don’t watch it because it is one small way I can make a statement and if Ms. O is low on funds she can’t funnel them to causes that I hate.
LOL! I have moments like that where I hear some "news" on the radio and I think, "isn't that an old news story"? Then I remember, I know this stuff because I have been listening to the "crazy guy with the chalkboards".
If the History Channel does not renew Top Shot for next season, Discovery needs to pick it up and also bring back Jericho and Firefly.
Just wait 6 months, she’ll be too big again : )
Well played ; D
I really wonder if he’ll start dragging Okra out to campaign stops. If she isn’t there by his side, it will look as though she’s not supporting him. That could be bad for him.

Pretty much everything that Baraq has been associated with has gone in the dumper.
His batting average is phenomenal.

Oprah Winfrey’s failures:
1. Oprah.com attracted 5.1million unique users in January 2011 when her daytime chat show was still being aired. But by July it was half that number at 2.4million, according to figures from comScore.
2. At the end of last year, O Magazine’s circulation was 2.4million, but it has steadily fallen since then and is expected to be around 1.9million by the summer.
3. OWN premiered on January 1, 2011, to an average of 505,000 viewers. One month later ratings plummeted to an average of just 135,000 with only 30 per cent of those viewers in the targeted demographic of women ages 25 to 54.
4. The Rosie Show debuted on OWN with 497,000 viewers.Within a week the ratings plummeted to 200,000 per episode.
She’ll soothe her depression with a dump truck load of Chocolate and marsh mellow bunny rabbits.
Don’t you know it is racist to celebrate the failure of the O? At least that is what she is going to blame her failure on (despite the fact that it was white stay at home moms that made her.)
