What I liked about him was he didn't take himself too seriously, and struck me as the kind of a guy you would feel comfortable having a beer with.

I always thought he was at his funniest when he reacted to jokes in his monologue that didn't go over well. His ad-libbed comebacks were simply the best.

Occasionally, when he was really bombing, the band would start playing and he would do a soft shoe routine as a last resort. Cracked me up every time.
