“We Bought a Zoo” with Cameron Crowe, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Colin Ford, Elle Fanning, et al.
Based on the true story of a zoo in Dartmoor, England, this one is in California. A widower has trouble with his neighbors, his job, and his two children because he, and the children, can’t let his wife’s memory go. He relocates his family to a large property in the country, but he has to take and care for the zoo that comes with it. It was very good in spite of the vile Matt Damon’s being in it, and we gave it four stars.
“W./E.” with Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy, Oscar Isaac, Richard Coyle, David Harbour, James Fox, et al.
A young woman named after Wallace Simpson remembers the relationship of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor that her mother and grandmother were so obsessed about and taught her all her life. We see a deeper story than what we have normally heard about the scandal, and in parallel, we see the story of Wallace’s modern namesake.
Oddly, it only got three stars on Netflix, the average of 4,217 ratings. What the heck is wrong with these people? This is an excellent movie, we gave it five stars, and it is on our shopping list. Madonna directed it, and she did a wonderful job.
