INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Sen. Richard Lugar is asking Democrats and independents to cross party lines and save him next week in the political fight of his life.
The six-term senator said Friday he needs votes from outside his own party if he is to survive Tuesday's GOP primary. Recent polling has shown Lugar trailing tea party-backed state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
Lugar told reporters he is best suited to represent Jewish and female Hoosiers along with ethnic minorities.

Yes it does say it all. Peggy Noonan’s fallen in with the crowd that says that we need to protect every incumbent republican so we can regain the majority.
We protected Jim Jeffords, he stabbed us in the back and gave control to the democrats in 2001.
We protected Lincoln Chafee, he stabbed us in the back many times over
We protected Arlen Specter, he stabbed us in the back by blocking conservative judges, voting for Obama’s stimulus and finally bolting the party when he didn’t get his way.
We refused to protect Lisa Murkowski, she stabbed us in the back by running a write-in campaign and getting democrats to vote for her in the general to successfully defeat the conservative.
We refused to support Charlie Crist, he quickly changed his tune, became the liberal he always was, and unsuccessfully ran as an independent to try to defeat the conservative.
We refused to support Dede Scozzafava, she stabbed republicans in the back by dropping out and supporting the democrat.
And on...and on. We’re done with Peggy Noonan’s mentality.
What is next? Turning like McCain for help from LaRaza? What else? The Soviet Union and Bin Laden if he does not get the amount of votes?
You got to love these RINOs, they are just like Democrates.

Lugar has been one of the “sainted ones” for so long, his campaigning skills have atrophied.
He, like so many other entrenched senators, is simply unused to having to go fight for his job.
