However, if he can arrange political events as Lincoln did, Obama might be able to get Lincoln's result: complete adherence of the entire U.S. military establishment, and even part of the Southern military establishment (George Thomas, David Farragut -- and there were others), to his cause as the "legitimate" combatant.
Remember that the issues of "loyalty" were no more clearcut then than now, in a contest among the States over the issue of whether the Southern States were indeed free to leave the Union, or were to be compelled to remain, as a military province and an economic march (in the sense of a conquered territory) and a spoil for the enjoyment of the Atlantic economic elite. Lincoln had large liabilities, on coming into office, in the area of persuading much of the Northern public, and the Army, that he could legitimately compel -- use major force against -- entire States of the Union (he did) and other States that had left the Union.
Please spare the BS in comparing Obuggery to Lincoln.
I think he is paying very close attention to Lincoln's success in warring down the People, and he aims to emulate him. Marx admired Lincoln, and so does Obama for the same reason: for his war, and for his conquest of the Southern planters as a resistant class.
He will consult Lincoln's war propaganda and methodes d'emploi as a hornbook to overthrowing us and making us his slaves -- or his victim dead.
I caution you in making comparisons between the 1860s and 2010s. People are not the same and America is not.
Obuggery is also beginning to be perceived as illegitimate president amongst the rank and file military. He is also despised by much of the officer ranks, He will not get far with them at all. So kindly stop comparing today to the Civil War days of the 1860s it just doesn’t wash.
