CLEVELAND (AP) -- Five men, at least three of them anarchists, plotted to blow up a bridge near Cleveland, but there was no danger to the public because the explosives were inoperable and were controlled by an undercover FBI employee, the agency said Tuesday in announcing the men's arrests.

The target of the plot was a bridge that carries a four-lane state highway over part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Brecksville area, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, the FBI said.

Generally the explosion if a four lane bridge over a national park that carries tens of thousands of vehicles per day would be noticed.

Or is this some asinine reference to a city you neither live in nor have ever visited?

If they did, it would be an relatively easy structure to bring down. I won’t detail where the charges could be placed, but that type of bridge is vulnerable to even a couple of small charges.

And I’m just a retired EE, not a CivE.

Thankfully, most of OWS and the anarchists are liberal arts majors, and incompetent liberal arts majors at that.

Don’t know about this case, but doesn’t it seem that an awful lot of crimes like this turn out to be FBI/BATF/Other agency operatives playing “entrap the stooge” (with each other)?

Based on the limited story, it’s a reasonable guess that the G-Men know the explosives are inoperable because they brought them to the table, something the other “conspirators” were incapable of doing. I read your McViegh comment as apt sarcasm at first, but sadly, it might be the literal truth.
