Human trafficking is booming in Europe, the Hague-based Eurojust, the EUs crime-fighting unit, said on Thursday (26 April). But the number of cases brought against traffickers is grossly disproportionate to the number of reported victims.
Something is wrong; not enough people are being brought to justice. One thing is sure is that it is a booming business, said Michèle Coninsx, President-elect of Eurojust. Eurojust, which coordinates with national judicial authorities on serious cross-border crimes, is aiming to get member states to bring more cases to it.
Despite the alarming numbers, Eurojust handled 74 registered cases in 2009, up from only 19 in 2004. Yet the United Nations estimates that globally, the traffic of human beings nets some 32 billion every year. In Europe, the overall profit numbers are vague but officials say the rise in trafficking is indisputably linked to the massive profit returns.
One indicator is the sharp increase of trafficking when Bulgaria and Romania joined the Union in 2007. Existing organized crime groups in Europe, some based in the Netherlands for instance, used the opportunity to lure poor and poverty-stricken girls from these countries with promises of work.
A 2010 opinion by the European Commission expert group on human trafficking found that member states are not investigating these types of cases because other crimes are easier, less expensive and more practical to prosecute.
The same year, not a single member state provided statistics on the number of cases and prosecutions involving human trafficking, says Eurojust. Consequently, the unit is pushing member states to oblige them to report and better monitor human trafficking.
The obligation already exists for terrorism, and we want that to apply it to human trafficking as well, James Thuy, Eurojust spokesperson told EUobserver.

People are obviously being paid off.
All slavers must die upon capture. Period. No quarter.

As was the case at the time of our founding, much of the slave trade is run by Muslims.
Europe has made them a protected class.
Is this proportional to the rise of Islam in Europe?
Is it “racist” to even ask?
On this subject I’m more libertarian than most. I think prostitution, as long as everyone involved is over 18, should be legal. Pimping, however, should carry an immediate and irrevocable death sentence.
Slavers should be drawn and quartered in the public square.
But I cried like a little girl when I met and heard the story of someone that was directly affected by the ongoing slave trade in the Muslim world and Africa.
I feel very strongly about slavery. Slavers must die.

Agreed. It’s happening everywhere, and it’s a protected racket. Educating young folks about it is a good first step. Further steps are best discussed in more private discussions.
Ah, this is stuff of news because the governments want to be the pimps. THis is what the Fluke issue was all about. If the tax payer pays the bill that allows her to be purchased for sex, it is ok, you see.
On that subject you and I are in complete agreement.
Good night, sir.
"Your women. I want to buy your women. The little girl, your daughters... sell them to me. Sell me your children."
Pimps have not been eradicated because they are an order of magnitude less a threat to the prostitutes than the johns and the johns significant others are.
Perhaps you might spend some time working at a shelter or rescue mission. You don't really have even a vague clue about the issues here.
Prostitution needs to be illegal not to punish the prostitutes, but to get them help in changing their lives. Much like laws against suicide.
And we haven't even touched on the diseases and physical injuries that of necessity go hand and hand with the business.
Moral absolutes ping.
Well, EU socialist secularists have their heads up their arses. How can you stop prostitution when socialism and destruction of the family is prostitution?

Lots of Americans acts so outraged by slavery 150 ago in USA, but couldn’t care less about slavery in the world today.
I don't hear anything from them about slavery today.

Since I lost my wife 16 years ago I could use a good woman but somehow I doubt one that you buy on the black market could EVER replace one who would marry you for real love.
Just in case there is one of you out there that is available to be purchased and could (or would) be able to love and be faithful (as well as happy), please let me know how much the asking price is and we’ll work something out.
—— on the other hand I really don’t think that this could EVER be a real possibility.
Just not something in the stars, to expect love to come my way again - especially under such terms and conditions.
When you end up as a victim in a Muslim crime situation, if you tell, they threaten to kill you and your family.
The justice systems are lax in Europe and you can bet that even if they get convicted of sexually abusing a minor, or slavery, they will be out in a couple of years to kill the victim if their dad, brother or uncle did not do it for them after the trial.
It’s a secret and brutal society. Brit authorities are afraid of them and afraid of the politically correct elite class that protects them as “victims.” They have no backing for the kind of force it would take to stop the Muslim abuse of girls and women.
>Once upon a time, I thought slavery was very 18th century. And then I met someone directly affected by the slavery that goes on today in the Muslim world and Africa.

As horrible as slavery is; I think that abortion is worse*... so until we’re willing to apply such measures against abortionists, forcing capital punishment on slavers seems a bit hypocritical (not the EXACT word I want to use, but it’ll have to do).
* Because at least w/ slavery the slave is still alive; with abortion the aborted is not.
...”Since I lost my wife 16 years ago I could use a good woman but somehow I doubt one that you buy on the black market could EVER replace one who would marry you for real love”...
Ya’ Think? It is very doubtful that a little slave girl could ever have normal feelings of love for someone who has enslaved her. She has to wonder whether she will be cast aside or killed when she is no longer used like any other kind of toy. Without a doubt, governments have to be involved in the trafficing of human beings and children..We go to war for matters much less important than this. It could be stopped if those at the top were not involved in this “product” themselves. What a world!!!
