Israel ex-spy warns against "messianic" war on Iran ("Fifth Column" in Israel?)

A former Israeli spymaster has branded the country's leaders unfit to tackle the Iranian nuclear program and "messianic" in the strongest criticism from a security veteran of threats to launch a preemptive war.

Other veterans have come out against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

But the censure from Yuval Diskin, who retired as head of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service last year, was especially strong and unusual in using the language of religious fervor that Israelis associate with Islamist foes.

"I have no faith in the prime minister, nor in the defense minister," Diskin said in remarks broadcast by Israeli media on Saturday. "I really don't have faith in a leadership that makes decisions out of messianic feelings."

The Prime Minister's Office and Defense Ministry had no immediate response to Diskin's remarks. But Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman rebuked Diskin and questioned his motives. …

World powers, sharing Israeli suspicions Iran has a covert bomb-making plan, are trying to curb it through sanctions and negotiations. Those talks resume in Baghdad next month, but Barak on Thursday rated their chance of succeeding as low. …

First Benny Gantz, now this guy. Really looks like an active "fifth column" working to undermine Israel; hate to think of how many others like these two are not speaking up and are acting covertly.

At a particular point this is no longer a legitimate political exercise, and this guy needs to be arrested for, in effect, aiding and abetting the enemy.

Given his former position of authority, he could be given a warning before the fact with the offer of redemption if he just shuts up, but such people rarely take good advice.

Seriously, what he is doing is so bad, and his insider information potentially so damaging, that the Israeli government should even consider putting him out of his misery. Most governments, even of the US, would be in a similar position.

I think that all of these stories coming out of Israel..these leaks..are all part of a coordinated “maskirova” ( deception) to confuse the Iranians..to let them think that the Israeli leadership is divided on what to do..let them believe that many Israelis opposes a premptive stike..

This is seriously bad. Anyone who thinks that Ehud Barak, who gets his kicks by picking on Israeli settlers, is a messianic extremist has got to be some kind of extremist himself.

He was head of Shin Bet domestic intelligence? There have been rumors bubbling around, but this is really unbelievable.

Perhaps. However if Natanyahu for whatever reason, domestic politics or American pressure, allows Iran to have the capacity to quickly assemble nuclear weapons before he leaves office, he will consider his political career a failure and will be forever haunted by his brother’s ghost.

Iran to have the capacity to quickly assemble nuclear weapons before he leaves office ...

Once assembled, it will be tested over Tel Aviv, so no need to worry about hauntings. The next two will be tested over Rome and NYC ...

The Kibbutzniks rather Israel be imperiled or worse, rather than lose control. We are dealing with the descendants of the Labour thugs who collaborated with the British and the Arabs.

The dangers of posting from al-Reuters.

From JPost:

Diskin proceeded to pull out a sheet of paper that contained a biblical quote from the Prophet Zachariah. The former Shin Bet chief read out the text, a description of the characteristics of a messiah.

Looking up from the paper, Diskin asked the audience, “Is this how you see our two ‘messiahs?’ One from [the] Akirov [Towers luxury residential building in Tel Aviv, where Barak lives]... and one from... Caesarea [where Netanyahu has a home], are these really messiahs?” “I’m telling you, I’ve seen them from up close, and they’re not messiahs. And they are people who I personally do not trust to lead Israel into an event of this size, and then to extract [Israel] from it,” he added

IOW Diskin was saying that Bibi and Ehud are NOT messiahs.

Reuters loves to make Jews look like irrational zealots.
