Everyone please send whatever you are able to, whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000+. The DUmmies, Morons, Kos Kiddies and that crew are laughing up their sleeves. Jim may have to make this site members only or allow ads. Better for us to just help with what we can. Maybe you can donate as a memorial for a lost loved one, a servicemember who never made it home or was disabled defending our country. Perhaps you'd like to give to keep free discussion alive and to show them that we're not knuckling under. I'm sure a well thought out or prayerful meditation will lead you to see the need and how you can help. If every registered FReeper and our lurkers would each just help out with a fin or a sawbuck, or better yet a Ben Franklin, we could put this to bed and get on with the conservative cause.
You pour the pack of peanuts in the bottle.
Perry’s entry messed up Palin’s plans, whatever they were at that time. We’ll have to wait on the book to know.
Hadn’t Palin already declared she wasn’t running before Perry came in?
I may be wrong but the two events were very close together. I doubt it had much to do with her decision.
That’s how I did it.
And she has a great gig now. Who in their right mind would have entered the race under those circumstances?
It wouldn't surprise me, though, to think that Perry entering the race probably was a factor in her not running, just not a deciding one.
Well, remember an earlier post about the ages of the Supreme Court justices.
The next 4 years should see at least two or three gone.
If you are pro life, you don’t want Obama picking any Supremes to give the liberals a majority. We would never get rid of abortion if that happens.
I am not blaming the management for the what happened on the Perry threads.
I am just pointing out where we are, but Perry got raped while he was not on his best game.
but he aint a quitter and he isnt vindictive.
IMHO he is just what is needed from a POTUS, steadfast.
Many will rip him apart, but the guy is steadfast
Has he made mistakes? Sure!
But 98% of the time he is right on top of what the electorate wants.
The few things he was criticized for like “instate tuition for illegals” where beyond his control. It was unvetoable.
Beyond all that it was an untenable position foisted on the state by the Feds
I find it preposterous that people used that to tear Perry apart. The man was making the case that the Feds were raping the states, but people are so stupid that they declared Perry is the very reason that illegal immigration exists!
If not now? When?
I am indeed an old lady.
I do the ZOT LIGHTNING posts because I usually post pretty pictures that my list members like, and I give them what they want, the zottees’ posting history, and a usually as-clever-as-my-aging-brain-will-allow vituperative excoriation of the zottee(s), and a little parting shot to twist the knife.
If I think that the zot was questionable, I’m kinder and gentler to the zottee, and they are sometimes just suspensions.
As for Wolfstar and sanescold (a list member of mine), didn’t you just get done saying upthread that you agreed Wolfstar was out of line?
Have you checked sanescold’s posting history?
Please remember that I have no say about who gets zotted. None.
Same thing happened to Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Newt and Santorum, except I wouldn't use the term that you did to describe it.
Probably you don't see it that way because Perry was your candidate.
LOL! That’s a toe-tapper, and the singer looks so serious. I love the little puppy that mugs for the camera, too.
Except that Perry didn't just say that. He also called critics of the policy heartless. Which means he agreed with it in his own heart.
That fits into my previous points to you about Perry not being ready for this run. Perry could have positioned his signing of the bill as carrying out the will of his constituents. But by ripping into those nationally who disagreed with the concept, he basically alienated those he needed to sway over to his side, and also showed support for the bill fit in with his own personal beliefs. That was a lethal double-blow from which he never recovered. He hadn't thought that one out, IMO. Which shows a lack of preparation and analysis about the office he was running for.
Oh I was critical of candidates, but the Perry hate was unreal.
About time this thread got some proper attention.
I agree with your comments. I have pointed out that I don’t think FR’s mods/admins could have done much about it because I saw it happen elsewhere too. And I never even saw the slightest indication that the powers that be on FR were officially anti-Perry in anyway. I just think they got swamped and determined the only thing to do was let the tide of anti-Perry hate wash away over time.
This was a unique situation that had more to do with Palin’s supporters (and there was LOTS of them on forums like this) viewing Perry as her primary conservative opposition. They were sure Sarah was running (her frequent bus tours added to this illusion), so they marched into battle en’masse to destroy Perry and clear the field for their candidate (who ended up letting them all down and not running anyway). Don’t underestimate the impact Sarah’s indecisiveness caused on this GOP primary cycle. It also was a contributing factor for why the conservative base stayed split for long. Imagine if Palin had announced in May she wasn’t running. Perry could have perhaps been stronger and united more of the base, maybe other conservatives might have entered the race, etc. Palin’s shadow over the field, and die hard supporters who refused to consider any other option (some still won’t and many have fantasies she will still “jump in the race”) seriously and adversely effected the GOP primary cycle this time around.
What I find surprising is the inability of many to understand the difference between what is required by law and what is required to achieve funding. You correctly state that there is no obligation for FR to disclose financials - unless of course enough of its donor base demands it prior to opening their wallets so that the choice is to either become more transparent or cease operations.
In a similar vein, FR is not required to allow posters to speak their mind if doing so is counter to management's views. Unless of course management's views become so narrow that there are not enough customers that both share these views and also have the capability of achieving the site's funding goals.
I commonly see these two issues confused on this thread and others. It's quite surprising and perhaps this lack of comprehension explains why a small group of posters act in a way that is seemingly contrary to the site's continued viability.
Yes, and when he heard the blow back, he said that was a lamentable choice of words.
But there was no understanding from the howling dogs.
Screw his stellar record.
People hounded him!
“Rick Perry personally strapped down my daughter spiked her with gardisil and forced her to **** ****”
That’s how crazy it was
I'm not being critical of you being critical of other candidates.
I'm only pointing out that there was the same level of hate directed at some of our other preferable candidates too.
If you don't see that, then we'll have to agree to disagree.
