A rally expected to draw prominent civil rights leaders is set to take place at a Los Angeles church on Thursday to mark the two-month anniversary of Trayvon Martin's death.
The rally starting at 5:30 p.m. at the West Los Angeles Church in Christ at 3045 Crenshaw Boulevard will be attended by the Martin family, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous, the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Bishop Charles Blake, who preaches at the church.
Several celebrities are expected, including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn, David Banner, Paul Rodriguez, radio host Big Boy and Magic Johnson.
(snip)
The rally comes as news broke that the man believed responsible for Martins death, George Zimmerman, has taken down a website devoted to helping raise money for his legal defense, a spokesman for his lawyer said Wednesday.
The website www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com was no longer functioning as of Tuesday, said James Woods, a spokesman for Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of the 17-year-old Martin in February. He has pleaded not guilty and is claiming self-defense.
O'Mara has hinted that he will ask Zimmerman to be declared indigent, which would allow taxpayers to pay for his legal bills.
Any income from the website would make that process more difficult. The website was created almost two weeks ago by Zimmerman's family to thank his supporters and to receive donations from anyone who wanted to help with his legal defense.

If Trayvon wasn’t real, they would have made him up.
“David Banner”
The Incredible Hulk? Hey, whaddya lookin’ at? See sumpin’ green?
Well, let’s see, aside from funding the US military, my tax dollars go to no other good use, so I would support them being used to defend an innocent man being persecuted by our racist government and the racist drones it helped to manufacture.
Just like Stevie Wonder, I saw it coming!
Hopefully it will be a memorial for a kid who died too soon no matter what actually happened.
“I don’t know if the new owner of the L.A. Dodgers is wise to attend an event attempting to lynch a not so white Hispanic guy.”
####
George has been recast as a white guy, and the Hispanics are more than happy to wink and nod along with the sham.
As far as any white Dodger fans, I imagine many of them are self-hating, cowardly white liberals, eager to prove their progressive, worldly outlook by siding with the poor downtroddden blacks, especially when...gasp...Magic Johnson is involved.
Is Magic going to be accompanied by his AIDS?
Zimmerman’s defense attorney advised him to take down the site so it wouldn’t interfere with his defense.
Amazing how it’s still all quiet on the CNN and Jackson’s fronts about Zimmerman being part black. What’s that?!? Yep, black. Confirmed by Reuters. And had blacks sitting down at his dinner table - oh my, how’s that gonna play with the NBPs? Truth be told Martin was a bit light skinned so there’s a great possibility he had a dose of white blood in there somewhere.
It would be so wonderful if at one of the events, one of the black speakers would get up and ream out all of the “leaders” first and then go after their subjects for being so damn stupid about this and so many other racial things.
They’re ignoring the evidence. They have to in order to have their party. If they paid any attention to what really happened, they would be embarrassed to say anything. What is the matter with black people who complained about their treatment 100 years ago in the south?
Here they are trying to do the same thing in reverse to a poor guy like Zimmerman who was trying to save his skin. Just try to imagine a man, a black man, who was standing in a group of people who were about to hang him for just defending himself. It is 1912 in Columbia SC. The crowd says he is guilty. The evidence says he is not. It’s the same thing, but in reverse.
There is a deep, evil sickness in the black community. But hey. That’s not news to us. Sadly.
Good one.
I wonder how many people in the black community would show up if it weren’t for the free concert? They should do this and find out... I suspect they’d have a hard time filling a large room...
This is a get-out-the-vote event for Obama.
Campaign finance laws don’t apply.
Still using the age 13 photo, they have no shame.
Hmmmm... I wonder how my “We are all Zimmerman. Long live Zimmerman!” tshirt would go over with the natives....
The writer left out the quote marks.
I don’t think Johnson should be able to buy the Dodgers if he’s so much into hate....
These people are making a gamble they will not be able to cover.
It sometimes seems as if they are begging for full out racism to return. They are segregating themselves even further from society by doing this crap.
