I hit 46 mph on my bicycle (speedo on handle bars) a decade ago when a pack of dogs was chasing me.

35 is nothing. I've hit 54 on mine (out in the country mind you, all cyclists don't act like idiots).
In the Tour de France, coming down out of the Alps, they hit 70, and those ain't straight roads. They're negotiating curves.
54 on a 20 lb bike feels about like 120 on a motorcyle. I've done both. White knuckles.

I did that once, in traffic in Toronto. Exhilarating, but never again.

I’ve gotten mine up to 58. I was able to do a sprint up to 32 MPH on a completely flat part of Strander blvd by Southcenter once. I could only keep it up for a few hundred yards, though.
I’ve had it to 45 on Second avenue in downtown Seattle. That is the main southbound bike thoroughfare there.
