Yes, the rules used to be different. June will mark fifty years since I boarded a plane for the first time in my life and flew to San Diego for Navy basic. In boot camp they used to tell us that if we didn’t like the way we were treated we could transfer “over the fence”, on the other side was Marine boot camp. Nobody ever raised his hand and asked to be transferred. Of course in those days if you really wanted to go home all you had to do was claim to be queer, gay still meant happy back then.
Yeah, we seldom got “tranfers” from the Navy, too much like work for most ;)
