So much for Gov. Scott Walkers (R) stewardship of the Wisconsin economy and his promise that eliminating collective bargaining rights for public employees and massive budget cuts would turn the Badger State into a job growth miracle.
A report today from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that Wisconsin is the only state in the nation to suffer statistically significant job loss during the 12 months from March 2011 to March 2012. In other words, while the rest of the nation is at least holding its own or seeing improvement in job growth, Walkers Wisconsin experiment is a miserable failure.
During the period, Wisconsin lost 23,900 jobs. That was the largest decrease in percentage terms in the country. The public-sector job losses (17,800) were far larger than the private-sector job losses (6,100).
Voters will certainly keep this in mind when they go to the polls in Walkers upcoming recall election.
The BLS report can be found here. Also click here to check out this report from the Economic Policy Institute and here for a more detailed look at Walkers economic record.
They say it like its a bad thing. Losing public sector workers is to be applauded. The fewer leeches on the private sector the better.
On Wisconsin!
I’d say that’s a good start!
I call it addition by subtraction.
They left out the punch line: 42% of the job losses were from the three counties (representing 13% pop.) that DIDN’T make use of ACT 10 provisions.
Now THAT'S the way to do it!!
We’re putting the brakes on unsustainable perks and benefits for our overlords in the public sector. The private sector is hiring again and the economic outlook is getting better for the Badger State!
....and your point is?
What’s the bad news?
The AFL-CIO wants to punish success by fudging the numbers in Wisconsin.
If this is the result of sanity, I’d guess that we are in for a very bad time... Unions and their power are the future of politics here and unfortunately elsewhere. Hang on folks, we are in for a very bad timer!
I guess the AFL-CIO didn't actually expect anyone to look at the link.
HALLELUJAH!
Should have cut twice that many of the Union Members' jobs, which produce ZERO benefit, and cost taxpayers a ton of money.
The Public Sector is a money-laundering operation of the DNC, and a 50% reduction, NATION-WIDE will be a good start on government solvency.
"I guess the AFL-CIO didn't actually expect anyone to look at the link."
I guess they didn't,check out the unemployment rate in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids state of Nevada, big backer of unions, highest unemployment rate in the nation.
Wisconsin's unemployment is at 6.8%, compared to 8.2% overall.
Real numbers!!
