Only an idiot would draw any meaningful conclusion from the outcome today.

Only an idiot would not see the obvious. That is, Newt was unable to get out the vote in the 5 states holding primaries tonight, even with Santorum out of the race. In fact, Newt is in danger of finishing BEHIND Santorum in a few of these states. Also, Newt is getting crushed in Delaware by a 2-1 margin - the one state he actually had a chance of doing well in tonight.

This puts the lie to those who felt that Santorum was preventing Newt from gaining traction on Romney. Now that Santorum is out of the race, Newt has done even worse and now Romney is being crowned the nominee and giving his victory speech as I type this.

Newt had his opportunity to show us tonight that he was the conservative alternative to Romney and he fell flat on his face. Now we are stuck with Mitt Romney and we must either make the best of the situation or we need to start looking at a third party.

If only Michelle Bachmann stayed in the race. If only Palin got in it. Oh well, we will never know now how Bachmann or Palin would have done. But I could have told you from Day One that Newt was not the answer.

My point was that nobody campaigned in Delaware.
Romney and Newt dropped in for fundraisers.

Neither had a State Director, or any ground game.
No signs, no events/rallies/house parties, no mailings, minimal radio adds, non targeting Delaware voters, and no get out the vote effort on Election Day.
