Gov. Mitt Romney stepped on a landmine by appointing Richard Grenell, an out, loud and proud homosexual, to be his spokesman on national security and foreign policy issues. Grenell has for years been an outspoken advocate for homosexual marriage. In fact, word is that he left the Bush administration because President Bush would not formally acknowledge his homosexual partner.
Since, as the saying goes in D.C., personnel is policy, this means Gov. Romney has some splaining to do. This clearly is a deliberate and intentional act on his part, since he was well aware of Mr. Grenells sexual proclivities and knew it would be problematic for social conservatives. Its certainly not possible that there are no other potential spokesmen available, men who are experts in foreign policy and who at the same time honor the institution of natural marriage in their personal lives.
So this has all the appearances of a deliberate poke in the eye to the pro-family community, and a clumsy one at that, coming right on the heels of endorsements from Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas and the National Organization for Marriage, and right after the governor accepted an invitation to deliver the commencement address at Liberty University.
As I explained in a much-discussed Tweet over the weekend, the message Gov. Romney appears to be sending to the pro-family community through his Grenell appointment is drop dead.
This is not just an Etch-A-Sketch moment for the governor, it is a crossing-the-Rubicon moment. It appears to be a dog-whistle to the homosexual lobby, a way of saying to them Im with you, not with them. It appears to be his way of saying to gay activists that when push comes to shove you can count on me.

What a shame and pity for all Americans.
This is an indication of Romney’s psychological profile.
And all of us thought BHO2 was self-centered?!
Romney is Pro-gay. Always acted that way. Always promoted himself as such. No reason to think his Supreme Court picks will not be either gay or pro gay. Romney has already indicated he doesn’t intend to change DADT.
As you pull the lever for Romney, you are (probably) pulling the lever for the advancement of gay rights.
I can’t imagine it will feel good.
Will you also be happy to have pulled the lever for higher taxes?
More government control?
Hence my tag.
“Richard Grenell, an out, loud and proud homosexual”
This Romney guy really is an arrogant POS, isn’t he?
Pulling the lever for Romney is no different than flushing conservatism down the toilet.
Ah, THAT’s the response to “coalescing behind the inevitable candidate”, eh? This just gets worse and worse. I’m with Spurgeon: I will not choose the lesser of two evils. Hence, MY tag line...
Virgil Goode is looking better by the second. He’s unlikely to win but his chances are no worse than Romney’s and with Goode, I don’t have to flush every ounce of conservatism to pull the lever for him.
Well, this is it. It’s still not too late.
It is time for the constituency to tell not only Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, Robert Jeffress of National Organization for Marriage, Jerry Falwell, Jr. of Liberty University but also Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, Gary Bauer of Campaign for Working Families and American Values, Pat Robertson, John Hagee, and Richard Viguerie and all the rest today’s weak-kneed leadership to rise up and say - NO!
Romney saw no more room to move to the center after the primaries, so he’s decided that his opportunity lies in running to the left of Obama.
“Ah, THATs the response to coalescing behind the inevitable candidate, eh?”
But not voting for Romney is a vote for Obama. I know because Romney-supporting FReepers told me so (/s). I wonder how they’ll defend this? Can’t wait to hear them... waiting...
Too many of us have said it until we’re blue in the face. Romney is:
Pro abortion
Pro gay agenda
Pro big government
The man will never receive my vote. Period.
Ditto. I will not be guilted into taking an action my conscience will not abide. I voted for Sarah last time, not McCain. This time, I don’t think there’s anybody Romney could put on the ballot that would make me do so.
The USA needs a U-Turn and Romney is not it. A Romney behind the wheel maintains the same wrong direction!
I’m an LU law school grad, and I have registered my discontent with the school over the poor choice of lending any credibility among Christians to the Romney candidacy. Fear is a powerful motivator, and the only thing greater, as they say in the fairy tales, is love. May our love for our country, and all the good with which God has blessed us, as a people and as individuals, drive us to do the right thing at the end of the day.
The ABR and ABO crowd are WAY ahead of the general population of Republicans when it comes to Romney. They’re all going to arrive at the same conclusions we have through our diligent research eventually. That’s when you’ll see a repeat of 2006 and 2008, and a “moderate” Romney ushering in the most liberal ruling party yet. That’s when you’ll get your full-fledged communism and suspension of elections. That’s not something a gridlocked Obama can achieve in 4 years. Romney though has the unique ability to remove all gridlock for the Leftocrats in a matter of 4 years by demoralizing conservatives and giving the libs a big opening.
The party’s full of Republicans who want to retreat on homosexual marriage according to this recent article. They might be the majority now. And there’s no doubt that’s the direction the Romney wing wants to go, and the Paul wing would have no objections either.

Like you, I will write in Sarah to let the republican establishment know how much I think they suck and then eagerly vote down-ticket for real conservatives.
