Former U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode of Rocky Mount secured the Constitution Party's nomination for president at the party's convention Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.
Goode was one of six candidates vying for the spot. He won on the first round of balloting with 203 votes, with 202 votes needed to receive the nomination.
Goode served 24 years in the Virginia Senate making headlines when he helped parlay a power-sharing agreement between Democrats and Republicans after the 1995 elections left it evenly split. He was elected to Congress in 1996, succeeding L.F. Payne. Goode left the Democratic Party to become an independent before the 2000 election and then joined the Republican Party ahead of the 2002 election. Goode was unseated in 2008 by Democrat Tom Perriello.
Goode is the first presidential nominee for the Constitution Party to hold a federally elected office, said Mitch Turner, chairman of the Constitution Party of Virginia. Goode said he plans to attract voters such as Democrats who are dissatisfied with President Barack Obama and Republicans who don't align with presumptive nominee Mitt Romney's policy positions.

If elected? Yeah right. Chuck Baldwin garnered a whopping 199K votes in '08 running in the Constitution Party. 130 million people voted that year.
The CP is aligned ideologically with Ron Paul.
Is Goode as well?
Does he want to defund Israel?
I hope Freepers keep the Constitution Party threads popping. I have not committed to them as my new party yet but they’re number one on my list. Conservatives are better in the future to make allies with Republicans when we can, but as members of a different party.
Another question, a practical one: How do they intend to get on the ballot in California? Last time I checked the CP had about three hundred registered voters there.
I suspect.
the last time i checked you can send Israel a check...what I would like to see is the fed government quit PAYING Israel’s enemies...dont fret about Israel the big guy upstairs got their back they wont need us. we just dont need to be on the wrong side lol
Clymer... Is this a joke? This guy doesn’t have a chance in hell.
If you think it’s just about a check, you’re mistaken.
Virgil is a GOODE man. Conservatives have a choice for President now instead of two leftist liar megalomanical sociopaths in Willard & Zero.
Virgil gets my vote....assuming Newt will not be the GOP nominee.
Nope, he’s a good Conservative. Unlike RP, he doesn’t kiss the asses of those who hate us (Mohammadans).
What cuts would Virgil Goode make in the Defense Dept? I lived in his district in Virginia when I was precinct chair..he was a democrat and switched to independent. The county chair..Sarah Terry worked for him for quite some time after she left the gop chair.
He switched around the time that George Allen won the governorship and Ollie ran but lost for senate.
Unless I have complete details on the cuts Goode wants to make on our defense dept..I can’t comment. Is he going to cut veterans benefits? or do you know?
Somebody needs to raise holy hell on the floor of the GOP convention to stop this impending abomination. It is unimaginable that the party is so pig ignorant stupid as to nominate someone so viscerally antithetical to base voters as Willard. They might as well run Hillary, at least she’d be more honest about her real leftist convictions (unlike Willard, who merely lies about his Socialism). But if the GOP Establishment prefers to play the role of “Stupid”, we Conservatives will go our own way for the top of the ticket. Enough is enough.
i dont know...sounds like some of you want newt, like that is better than romney
Ya think old Virgel has a chance do ya?
Actually, I want WI Gov. Scott Walker.
