Former U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode of Rocky Mount secured the Constitution Party's nomination for president at the party's convention Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.
Goode was one of six candidates vying for the spot. He won on the first round of balloting with 203 votes, with 202 votes needed to receive the nomination.
Goode served 24 years in the Virginia Senate making headlines when he helped parlay a power-sharing agreement between Democrats and Republicans after the 1995 elections left it evenly split. He was elected to Congress in 1996, succeeding L.F. Payne. Goode left the Democratic Party to become an independent before the 2000 election and then joined the Republican Party ahead of the 2002 election. Goode was unseated in 2008 by Democrat Tom Perriello.
Goode is the first presidential nominee for the Constitution Party to hold a federally elected office, said Mitch Turner, chairman of the Constitution Party of Virginia. Goode said he plans to attract voters such as Democrats who are dissatisfied with President Barack Obama and Republicans who don't align with presumptive nominee Mitt Romney's policy positions.

well some founding fathers have warned us about foreign entanglements...seems like lunacy to give money to israel and israels enemies
Who gives a flip what they do? It's no surprise - they did it before! Are you always so weak when it comes to someone's intentions that you fold like a cheap suitcase?
This isn't about a party but America!
And how exactly is Virgil Goode a Mitt enabler?
Anyone one who would even consider taking one vote from NEWT is helping the POS Mitt. He's bought off enough conservatives, that's his mo.
Newt is PRO CONSTITUTION - all the way, it runs in his blood with a record to prove it! Either one is whole hardheartedly behind him or against him/against America.
There are no do-overs or time for pipe dreams - this is it!
Having had some extensive personal experience with the CP it is very hard for me to believe that he could have won their nomination if he doesn’t share most of Ron Paul’s foreign policy views.
This is one nation under God and HE SAYS .... "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
You think America has been blessed for 200+ years by accident or obedience?
Is 55:9 9 As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
“We oppose unilateral disarmament and dismemberment of America’s defense infrastructure. That which is hastily torn down will not be easily rebuilt. [...]
“We call for the maintenance of a strong, state-of-the-art military on land, sea, in the air, and in space. We urge the executive and legislative branches to continue to provide for the modernization of our armed forces, in keeping with advancing technologies and a constantly changing world situation. We call for the deployment of a fully-operational strategic defense system as soon as possible.”

When Alan Keyes was invited to entertain their nomination four years ago the first question they asked was whether he would agree to pull our country’s support for Israel. Of course, he said no. After that it was all downhill for him in the CP.
It's not quite that simple. Newt also has some background that shows: A pro-global warmist tilt:

Backing for a healthcare mandate:

Plus, a rather shaky position on illegals; first he says they should be departed, then wants a "humane," non-deportation policy.
Newt is the best one left standing of the three remaining in the GOP, but you and I both know only a miracle will prevent Romney from getting the nomination, so the best Newt can realistically hope for is an offer for a VP slot. Somehow, I doubt he'll take it.
And, let's dispense with the simplistic "Vote for Newt or you hate America" routine. I'll rise above your allegations of "weakness," but will tell you this: I voted for Bush I and II, Bob Dole and John McCain, all because the alternative was far worse, and what has the GOP to show for it, but an establishment disdain for all things Tea Party? With Romney atop the GOP heap, those lines are blurred. And he's going to be crushed by Obama in November.
If somehow Newt were able to pull it off (which he won't), I'd certainly look to him. I will NOT cast a vote for Romney.
Really.
Certainly shows how you want things handed to you and no fight or $upport in you. Don't bother looking at him, America wasn't built on gawkers and will not survive on them! You don't have to vote for Romney to get Romney - how clueless can one be!
Marshall Coleman is an establishment RINO, or have you forgotten his sandbagging Ollie North in 1994 ?
REALLY? How far do you think your rose - YOU learned nothing!!
You KNOW barry will trash mitt, yet you sit on the sidelines supporting an opponent of NEWT. I see a defeatist attitude so the best Newt can realistically hope for is an offer for a VP slot - instead of one being thankful, grateful and SUPPORTIVE of NEWT that he's still fighting FOR America by the support of others! When your candidate doesn't have a chance in h*ll!
"Vote for Newt or you hate America" - STILL STANDS!
Right.. that assumption is made with absolutely no knowledge as to what political contributions I`ve made and to whom.
And you haven`t addressed my points on Gingrich`s stances on global “warming”, health care and immigration.
Right.
Thanks for your input. Noted.
Bye, now.
If we are this far into the race and don't know, you just don't want to know. Much easier for some to believe what they hear - and not interested in truth. Lazy voters are the liberal and GOPe's ticket to victory.

So you’re denying Newt’s stances on this subjects. I have sources...you don’t. I don’t know what to do for you.
Your sources are anti-American. You aren’t capable of doing anything for yourself with blinded eyes.
Toddle off now. I’m officiall bored with you.
You already showed you are bored with America - going along whatever way the wind blows and sucked up by propaganda. The way of a wimp.
