Used for self defense or hunting, the only sound should be the safety being clicked off.
There will already be one in the chamber long before I need to shoot.

Both approaches are valid IMHO. I once disuaded a home invader by calmly walking to the door the scumbag was trying to break down and racking a round. Heard him/it scurry off instantly. Only evidence left was the puddle of urine outside my door. (No joke.)

I dunno, I kinda liked that man down in Texas who shot the guys stealing from his neighbor.
The “you’re dead” is a classic.

Used for self defense or hunting, the only sound should be the safety being clicked off. There will already be one in the chamber long before I need to shoot. That's how I was taught. The idea that the clack-clack of pumping the shotgun will cause the perp to freeze is a bad assumption. It may just as easily cause him to start firing wildly in the general direction of the sound.
