To me, that sounds like your "buck" shots didn't get the job done and your perp has moved to "danger close."
Why not buckshot the first three or four, then slugs the last two or three?

I get the close up with the buck, his partner drives away in the car, I put a slug through his rear window. Also I can pump another shell in in a fraction of a second so if the first buck does not stop him and the slug misses, I have another buck at him before he takes a step. I get short range and long range in a fraction of a second. All and all though, the first buck is going to stop him at the front door.
