A piñata shaped like a white woman was strung up to a tree at the University of Memphis, then African-American students took turns beating it with a stick.
Where is Al Sharpton when you need him? Isnt this a shocking case of racism?
No, actually it isnt. Turns out the students involved were mere grade school kids, brought on campus for a special Luau party sponsored by the university. The piñata was supposed to represent a hula dancer.
We want to assure our community that no racial or gender animosity was intended, said a university spokesperson.
At worst, this seems like a bad case of multicultural confusion. (Hawaiian luau + Mexican-style piñata = what cultural tradition exactly?)
Luckily, in this case, the racial dynamics were not reversed, with white students and a black piñata strung up to a tree. Imagine the controversy that would have generated.
Nevertheless, the university was compelled to explain itself when the picture started generating backlash after it was posted online.
Its a sad thing when a few kids cant swing at a piñata without unleashing an avalanche of racial grievances. But thats the reality we live in.
The pinata could have been a coon dog instead.
When did a pinata become a part of American culture?
What is this the Mike Tyson Technical Institute or the OJ Simpson School for the Gifted? /s
I’ll give them a pass on this one even though blacks wouldn’t if the situation were reversed and white kids were beating a black pinata.
‘When did a pinata become a part of the American culture?’
It spread thru the country as soon as kids realized they were being deprived of picking up and eating candy from the ground after wildly swinging a stick at the air while blindfolded.
(And sometimes nailing a family member - - -)
Hmmm...an Obama pinata for the fourth of July...
‘Obama Pinata’
Woo Hoo - grand idea!
Eggs - cellent!
Grab one of those star-shaped pinatas, fill it with arugala, funny munny from his ‘stash,’ and some Hope and Change, attach the Fairey Foto, and watch the adults wail away!
We’re passed frustrated and want/need to do SOMEthing - - this is a harmless oportunity!
When you are a child, you are very easily influenced. Parents and teachers know this. At what point is this a mistake? If a mistake, the judgment of the teachers is is serious question. Their answer to the call on their judgment is indicative.
A Hula Pinata.
So, silly me, I looked up Hula Pinatas and there is actually such a thing! Saw over a dozen models of them, but strangely enough, they all had on green grass skirts.
Perhaps in fairness to the poor Irish they tore the skirt off of the white woman before they hung her up for the black boys to beat on?
Would Laz hit it?
Nah, Laz is smart enough to photoshop in a green grass skirt.
