The Real Romney
American Clarion ^ | January 18, 2012 | Bob Ellis

The Daily Caller reports a huge 200-page research document has hit the internet, and it reveals Mitt Romney utterly and damningly for the flip-flopping opportunistic liberal that he is.

The paper was compiled during the 2008 presidential race and is believed to be from the McCain campaign (not the most conservative source itself). Among some of the interesting tidbits that blow a hole in his claims about being pro-life, pro-marriage, and generally conservative:

Abortion

• Romney says he changed his mind on abortion meeting with Harvard stem cell researcher - Romney claims the doctor said scientists "kill" embryos after 14 days, but doctor later said Romney "mischaracterized my position."
• Months after his "conversion," Romney stated his commitment to upholding Massachusetts’ abortion laws and appointed pro-choice judge to state district court.
• In October 2005, Romney signed bill expanding family planning services, including abortion counseling and morning-after pill.
• In December 2005, Romney "abruptly ordered his administration to reverse course . . . and require Catholic hospitals to provide emergency contraception medication to rape victims."
• Romney health insurance plan expanded access to abortion, required Planned Parenthood representative on state panel.
• Romney endorsed legalization of abortion pill RU-486 access during his 1994 Senate race and backed federal funding of abortion, saying "I think it’s important that people see me not as a pro-life candidate."
• In 1994 and 2002, Romney confirmed his support for Roe v. Wade decision and forcefully positioned himself as pro-choice in 1994 Senate race, saying "you will not see me wavering on that."
• Romney has refused to comment on bill pending in South Carolina legislature requiring that abortion doctors offer pregnant women option of viewing ultrasound.

Gay Rights

• Romney endorsed Rep. Barney Frank’s Employment Nondiscrimination Act in 1994.
• In 1994, Romney called "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy first step toward having gays and lesbians "able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military" and said he would provide "more effective leadership" on gay rights issues than Ted Kennedy.
• In 2003, Washington Times reported Romney "would support a Vermont-style civil union law in Massachusetts."
• As governor, Romney said health coverage benefits and hospital visitation rights should be provided to gay couples.
• Romney promised to make gay partnership benefits a "hallmark of my leadership as governor" and has said he would attend gay weddings if invited.
• Romney publicly opposed Boy Scouts’ ban on homosexuals in 1994 and 2002 campaigns.
• In 2002, Romney backed hate crimes legislation that included sexual orientation provisions.
• In 2007, Romney praised gay parent who confronted him over gay marriage issue, but in 2005 remarked to South Carolina audience that some gay couples "are actually having children" and called it "wrong."

Gun Control

• In 1994 Senate race, Romney backed Brady bill and assault weapons ban, saying "I don’t line up with the NRA" and "that’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA."
• Romney called Clinton crime bill "a big step forward."
• As governor, Romney quadrupled gun licensing fees and vowed not to "chip away" at tough gun laws
• In 2004, Romney signed permanent state-level ban on assault weapons that was mirrored after federal assault weapons ban. • In January 2006, Romney said he owned a gun - then two days later admitted he did not and the gun belonged to his son.
• Romney bragged about being member of the NRA but later revealed he didn’t join until August 2006, just before launching his presidential campaign.
• Romney recently said he’s "been a hunter pretty much all my life" but later admitted he hunted only twice in his life, later clarifying remarks by claiming he has hunted "small varmints . . . more than two times."
• In 2006 press conference, Romney claimed he had been hunting "many times" after returning from quail hunt in Georgia.

The paper also goes on to provide much greater details about these facts also. You should be sure to read the whole thing.

If Republicans allow themselves to be duped into believing Mitt "RomneyCare" Romney is a real Republican (much less a real conservative), they will be sorely disappointed if given a chance to find the truth once he’s in the White House.

If Republicans allow the "mainstream" media and RINO elites to scare them into settling for this poor excuse for a Republican, they are going to kick themselves later. With Americans having gotten a clear look at liberalism under Barack Obama and his Democrat Congress, there will never be a better time to elect a real Republican, a conservative who understands how America was designed to operate. With the damage done by liberals to our great nation, there has never been a time when we have more desperately needed a conservative who knows what makes this country tick . . . not one who will only reduce - but not stop - the level of liberal poison being injected into our society.

The truth is, Romney almost certainly will not get a chance to show his true face. Enough Republicans already understand that he’s nothing but a liberal with an "R" after his name, which means that even if people allow the "mainstream" media and the GOP establishment to fool them into supporting him in the primary, there will not be enough support from Republicans who know the truth to push him over the top in the general election. Principled Republicans will not vote for a fraud like Romney, and when "independents" are given a choice between a liberal with an "R" after his name and a liberal who proudly embraces the liberal Democrat Party, they’ll go for the genuine article every time.

Republicans, let’s throw this pretender onto the side of the road while there is still time, and choose a real Republican like Rick Santorum. Half-measures and "the lesser of two evils" will not be enough to save our ailing country; we must have decisive leadership that understands the need to return to the traditional American values that are PROVEN to work. Rick Santorum understands that; Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it.

Romney is not a threat to our constitutional republic...Obama is. Vote accordingly. Attempts to convince us how bad Romney is just help Obama at this point. Newt is over, any other conclusion is denial.

How many of the next 19 states do you think Mitt will win? On what day will he finally get the 1,144 delegates he needs to win the nomination?

Turning both of our parties into liberal parties is a dangerous threat to our republic. Building a conservative opposition party to the Dummycrats is the only way to save our Republic. If Romney wins that will be virtually impossible to do.

The same place it was when John McCain used it against Romney last election. From the article:

...is believed to be from the McCain campaign...

Romney most certainly is a threat to our constitutional republic.

1. He will appoint liberal judges who will rule against the constitution.
2. He will sign into law any over-reaching bill that has no constitutional authority.
3. He will be a cheerleader to liberal causes which conflict with the constitution and will use the bully pulpit to keep wimpy GOP representatives in line with his flawed views.

How can you say with a straight face that he is no threat to our constitutional republic?

“What I’ve never heard explained is what is the spirit behind Mormonism?”

... well, not the Holy Spirit. That doesn’t leave many options.

“Romney is not a threat to our constitutional republic...Obama is.”

However you choose to describe it, electing either will result in a more liberal country.

Mitt Romney: A Liberal’s Liberal Republican

“”But should Romney be the GOP’s presidential nominee? The answer is “absolutely not.”

Although there is no “perfect conservative,” and although conservatives have serious issues with every candidate running, Mitt Romney is nothing more than a strident liberal masquerading as a moderate. As Selwyn Duke rightly wrote in 2007, Romney is the Barack Obama of the GOP. Every Republican has made his share of mistakes, but Romney is a committed liberal on the whole spectrum of issues.

Conservatives know that Romney was pro-abortion for a long time before he first ran for the presidency in 2007, at which time he “changed his position” because he was now asking for the votes of conservatives. Romney has also supported “gay rights,” and as Massachusetts governor, he implemented same-sex marriage by executive fiat.

In 2004, the MA Supreme Court ruled that the state’s marriage law was unconstitutional — but the Court did not rule, contrary to what is claimed, that gay marriage must be legalized and that the state constitution contains a “right” to marry. Yet, as soon as the ruling was issued, Romney commanded state agencies, by executive order, to start issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples.

Romney is stridently liberal on fiscal and economic issues. He did not initially support the Bush tax cuts; he has long opposed (and continues to oppose) the flat tax, calling it “a tax cut for fat cats”; he used fee hikes and “loophole-closing measures” to balance the Massachusetts state budget; and when he found items in it which he deemed wasteful or uneccessary, such as $30 million per year for hotel rooms for homeless people, he spent such sums on something else rather than use them to balance the budget.”

Newt Gingrich vs. Mitt Romney; Comparing Conservative ‘Products of Work’

http://gulagbound.com/25637/newt-gingrich-vs-mitt-romney-comparing-conservative-products-of-work/

“The more I read about how wildly Romney lies about his record (and distorts Newt’s), I realize I simply can’t address this without showing emotion. But I am trying to give an ACCURATE snapshot of anything that could be considered conservative or liberal on both.

What are their biggest accomplishments actually governing?”

If you would put as much energy in getting Obama out as you do spamming all day we would be much better. I am believing that you are a Rat Mole.

I will not defend Romney but you are defending the re-election of Obama.

You are dangerous and if Jim doesn’t reel you in there are MANY that are going to leave this site.

You are nothing but a stalker and someone needs to put a restrainting order on you. You are a kook!

I will not defend Romney but you are defending the re-election of Obama.

That's just it, there is no defense of Romney, and yet you want us to vote for him.

It's not going to happen.

As long as Jim lets me, I am going to continue to post the record of Mitt Romney.

Jim can speak for himself, but I'll never vote for that lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal and I will do all I can to make sure he does not gain the nomination.

There are still 46% of the delegates to be won in the GOP nomination process and you want everyone to just be quiet about the Progressive Liberal record of Mitt Romney.

Now who is the real danger to FreeRepublic, a website devoted to conservative principles, whose owner has made it clear that there will be no program of support for Romney?

Someone who is actively promoting Romney or someone who is being honest about Romney?

I must be doing something right if I have such a notable Romney supporter such as yourself riled up.

You support this lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal, then you own him and his record.

“You are nothing but a stalker and someone needs to put a restrainting order on you. You are a kook!”

In attempts to defend the indefensible..you are resorting to the fallback position of the liberal...attack the individual with whom you are unable to prevail in an argument. The “ad hominem” attack. Generally frowned upon here at FR.

Romney is merely Obama’s Caucasian mini-me. The only distinction materially between the two is their skin color.

A Conservative Congress will be united in opposition to Obama in his second term..

A Conservative congress will be easily sliced and diced by the RINO’s if Romney is elected president.

Conservative interests, if Romney is the GOP candidate, are CLEARLY better served with his defeat.
