Unfortunately, he did not make up the difference with men.
Newt is right out because his campaign is flat broke, he's 4.5 million in the whole, his SuperPac sponsor has abandoned him, he is selling his donor list to raise money (usually a sign of campaign winding down), and is basically just asking for cash to help pay off his campaign debt.
Sadly what I've found, as someone who supported Newt after Perry dropped, is that the very speeches I think are the best, the combative ones where he dissects the media and establishment, are just not received well by most of the conservative minded folks I show them too. People seem to think he is too angry and smug. And yes, none of the women I know (and talked politics with) liked Newt for all a manner of reasons.
Sickening, isn't it? They're like locusts, minus the primal survival skills.
“The average Caucasian women here is definitely a likely Obama supporter.”
Sounds like Northern Virginia is morphing into MA. That's a horrible thing, but again, see your quote above. You explain it perfectly.
I agree this poll is probably garbage. But the whole dynamic about Obama being likable, is I’m afraid, a problem for the GOP and Romney.
The MSM isn’t as powerful as it used to be, it still probably reaches more people than any other source. It still has the power to shape debate and influence perceptions. That Obama is arrogant, that he is hypocritical, that he is a bully, that he is a demagogue, that this ‘post-racial’ figure has a disgraceful race-obsessed Attorney General doing his bidding...none of this will be the narrative put forth by the MSM. It’s all true, but that doesn’t matter. If a Republican had made comments about the Sup Court as Obama did, he would have been savaged by the media.
Romney, on the other hand, is like any Republican facing a Democrat in a general election. To the MSM he is the enemy and must be destroyed.
Despite media bias, Obama is a very vulnerable and beatable incumbent President. So it’s a shame that the GOP’s best didn’t step forward to rid the nation of Obama. Aside from fear or dread of the massive amount of hatred that would be directed at them for beating Obama, I just don’t understand why so many didn’t want to run. (And I’m not talking about Christie, who is awful on the Second Amendment.) But Romney it is. He’s got my vote, and I hope Romney has fight in him and is ready for what’s coming.
Romney has no shot.
***...thanks in part to the perception...***
In part - a small, very small part - like 0.001%
The perception - i.e., not reality.
One thing that ideologically committed voters, right and left, often forget is that a fair number of voters don’t have much of a political philosophy and are greatly swayed by charisma: they could vote for a true-blue conservative or a socialist, as long as he has rock-star charisma, especially if his opponent is a square. Mittens has negative charisma—yet another reason the GOP-E are fools to back him (assuming they actually want to win the presidential election—perhaps they don’t). 0bama has as much of a charisma advantage over Mittens as Clinton did over Popppy Bush and Bob Dole, and we all know how those elections turned out. Many people have remarked upon 0bama’s luck in repeatedly facing weak Republican opponents: from Alan Keyes in his 2004 Senate race to McCain in 2008 and now to Mittens. It’s uncanny.
Romney just has to get to 270. I wish we had a Reagan or even a Gingrich as the likely nominee, but it looks like it’s Romney (barring a convention rebellion). He can lose the overall women’s vote to Obama and still win the election if he can make deep enough inroads in that support so that Obama loses in close states. I think that’s a very obtainable goal.
Santorum 2012
Or 2016, RIghtwardHo!
Who actually "likes" him, personally?
Leftists like his politics, but I've never met anyone who likes HIM.
Even die-hard liberals liked Reagan personally. Look at his friends. All over the political spectrum. Does Obama have any friends? You never hear from them. Heck Clinton had plenty of actual friends.
Well I dont know about unintelligent, but they are certainly not very well informed.
Unfortunately, I suspect you're probably right. It's a sad fact, but as even a lot of folks on here on FR show, "conservatives" in America are largely turning into a bunch of spineless eunuchs.
Any national poll taken anytime before September is worthless. We don’t know the issues nor do we have any clue what agenda Romney is going to be running on. We have no clue who else is going to be on the ballot. All we know are both elitist candidates are socialists and both candidates are liars.
“...most studies show pretty conclusively it is because women tend to vote on emotion and men tend to vote on logic.”

I’d sure like to see a list of those studies. I, and most of the women I know, are extremely logical. Cause and effect mean a great deal to us. Our emotional component allows us to see a larger picture, but doesn’t necessarily or automatically override logic.
“Men tend to look at the numbers and ask “does the program work”. Women tend, for whatever reason, to be more receptive to the argument that we should spend more on these things no matter what (or that it is simply good enough that we keep trying no matter how wasteful).”

Good grief! What *study* did THIS come from?
“Hence the made up “war on women”. Sadly though, that stuff tends to work ...”

Among the women I know, the vast majority find this *manufactured war on women* meme utterly ridiculous. It’s not working for them this time.
Overall, my input is that Republican WOMEN ought to promote some strong, logical PR on the subject to both educate and counter the nonsense being put forth by these juvenile Democrats.
Probably the ones seeking access to Obama's stash.
Actually - if mittens is that far behind in women and still very close with ghettobama, by november, if he can even cut that deficit by half he will beat obama handily.
Sadly you are probably correct. Nothing is worse than Obama IMO.
There is no “gender gap” in favor of the Democrats among married women.
For those for whom the government is the provider and protector, the “gender gap” is huge.
The person you’re posting to is right in a way, but not in the way he expressed.
National polls themselves seen to be worthless seeing how we don't elect by popular vote. As has been the case with the last few presidential elections, this one will be decided by voters in a handful of key swing states.
Last election I lived in California. I don't recall a single campaign ad. It seemed neither party bothered wasting their money for ads in California. This election I'm in Florida and I'm sure the ads here will be non-stop.
This “War on Women” thing is so ridiculous...but I hope they continue to use it.
It makes them sound dated and out of touch with REAL women who work or raise families. They are so clueless; all they know about women is told to them by career hag politicians, lesbians, gay men and college girls majoring in Feminist Studies.
The REST of us real ladies are just saying HUH? Didn’t the women already WIN that war?? Hello??
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
They would learn more about women just by picking up an issue of Cosmo or Family Circle Magazine.
Sheesh! Mrs CT Hillbilly
