0bama is describing his daughters ancestry by his own words- his own by the authors. Who are we to believe as to what he was saying? Well his own words seem to stand decently on their own - he was speaking of his daughters.

His daughters have a mother, you may recall, most daughters do. Their mother's ancestry IS African-American and most likely the descendant of slaves.

Why the distinction between Africans and African-Americans? His daughters are decendents of African-Americans who have lineal roots in Africa. Why not just say they are descendants of Africans, as are most African-Americans?

Definition: Lineal descendant--a blood relative in the direct line of descent.

OK, there was a single shred of truth. His daughter’s great or great-great grandparents may have been slaves. Whoop-dee-doo! My great-great-great Scottish grandparents were just barely more than slaves to the land holders in Scotland and England. The first American-born generation in every line of my family sent boys off to fight to free the black slaves here. And I do mean boys. A 15 yr old in one case.
