This will be the situation here if Obama wins re-election.

What do you mean "will be"?

I have been looking to get out of here for more than a decade.

The only real obstacle is the IRS.

You would not believe what happens to you from that bunch if you expatriate.

Actually, it isn't all that bad, unless you want to come back or pass through.

It would kind of be like your flight got diverted to NY and you had a handgun in your luggage, only worse. So, wherever you go, you have to stay there and never get into the U.S. again; intentionally or unintentionally.

Huh ? I’ve been in Japan for 26 years and have a permanent visa to stay . I’ve been back many times over the years , as recently as 2 weeks ago , never had a problem . The IRS has never bothered me at all .

Could you elaborate? I am looking seriously at Canada in this regard, and would be interested in hearing more. I have been working at a non-profit in Ontario for over ten years as a temp worker, but will likely apply for permanent resident status soon.
