Our Sister Something would distract us with that ruler and then swing a sock filled with rolls of dimes at the backs of our heads. When the “stars” finally cleared and we were able to get off the floor, we wouldn’t know what hit us. How she got away with a swinging-sock thing is still a mystery. Father What’s-His-Name just smiled and approved, everytime. LOL.

We may (sort of) decry such imposition of order a little, but it was that very imposition of order which helped us to learn, grow up, and become Conservatives, despite the hand, brain, and on occasion bottom trauma imposed with rulers and other blunt force trauma delivery systems during our school years.

It sure let you know where the lines were, and it was up to you from there.

The permissiveness of today's school environment would never have been tolerated, and I think the difference is readily apparent to anyone who will look.
