I thought it was the model 700 rifle with the reliability issues that the media talked about in the past. The 870 is probably one of the best for the money made. Law enforcement and hunters have relied on it in various formats for decades.
I have seen two rifles that would fire when the safety was switched off. Both were 700’s, and both had the issue NBC and others described.

As I recall the problem with the Model 700 rifle safety happened when some "gun smith" worked on the trigger assembly.
This happened after the firearm had left the factory. You can't make things idiot proof.
870s, been around them for almost 60 years, never heard of a problem with the safety.
It sounds like the anti gun media is digging up 10 to 20 year old stories they did for a new round of headlines. Guilt by association, the Remington name from their own biased reporting of years past.
