In searching for my family genealogy, I found my great grandfather was a Civil War veteran who served in the 181st Ohio Volunteers and fought with Grant in the Wilderness campaign. His grave is proudly marked with a small plaque from the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).

My Mom has a picture in her living room of her as a small child standing next to her Uncle who served in the Civil War. He has a long white beard.
