It is a certainty that either Barack Obama or his Republican challenger (presumably, Mitt Romney) will take the oath of office next January--for four years.

I am not at all certain that this republic can withstand another four years of Barack Obama--especially since he will not be running for a third term in office, and will therefore be entirely uninhibited in his desire to move America considerably to the left.

In the end, therefore, I would much prefer to vote for the better of two imperfect candidates (and Barack Obama is so vastly imperfect as to be utterly objectionable, in my opinion), rather than to fly the flag of Philosophical Purity, while going down gloriously, in flames.

The so-called "Buckley Rule" (named after the late William F. Buckley Jr.) seems appropriate here: One would be well advised to vote for the rightmost candidate sho has a reasonable chance of winning...

Labeling Romney an “imperfect candidate” is generous in the extreme.

No longer applies. We are beyond selecting the "right most" candidate. We are now well into "least left" territory. Romney is a progressive liberal and less popular than Obama. He can't beat Obama because Obama is better at being liberal than he is -- the Romney supporters today (in my state Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee counties) will carry water for Obama in November. Romney has already lost because the support that has gotten him this far will not be loyal to him when he is pitted against their Obama. The GOPe is just not smart enough to realize it. One would be well advised not to jump on the losing team's bandwagon heading toward a foreign field for battle. Better to start grooming the battlefield on your own turf.

Would that be the same Buckley who ran a third party campaign for NYC Mayor against a RINO?

He’s your model for supporting Romney??
