I don’t understand why Gingrich will not go nuclear with Romney’s eligibility status (Father was Mexican)

Actually, that’s the problem. Newt can’t go after Romney because the conservative media (Drudge, Rush, Fox, coulter) are in the tank. Also, Romney simply has too much money- he controls the narrative.

Newt realized that after Florida. Since, his goal has been to fly under the radar to the convention- and then his audience is limited to (2500+/-) delegates—and Romney’s negative ads are off the table. .

Long shot, but it was the only available strategy.

Romney’s father may have been born in Mexico, but his parents were both U.S. citizens and George Romney derives his U.S. citizenship from his parents.

Mitt Romney was born in the United States of citizen parents. That means he is a Natrual Born citizen.

Because there is an argument that the 14th Amendment confers citizenship and that is construed as natural born citizenship.

No matter how wrong the argument might be, it must makes its way to the SCOTUS unless Congress passes a resolution which is not going to happen soon.

So the issue is DOA for now.

However, if Sheriff Arpaio can release more damning evidence or obtain a grand jury indictment on Obama or the culprits who forged the legal documents, then attention will be drawn to citizenship and hopefully the public will be made aware of the distinction between ‘citizenship’ and ‘natural born citizenship’ (born on US soil of two US citizens).

Such a divine event could propel Newt to the top of the list along with Santorum. Romney would be damaged goods possibly contraband to the convention.

Until Obama has been vetted on this and those in Congress who dropped the ball on this are convicted, there no longer is an "eligibility status" to be President.

There is now a default status and that is "we are all Americans UNTIL proven otherwise".

George Romney may have been an idiot, but he was an American. After all, not only was he once the governor of Michigan, he ran for president himself. At this point, you would have to actually prove he was a Mexican, not an American.

Because nobody is buying any of that nonsense.

... and besides being born in Mexico, Romney's dad ran for President against Goldwater !

Maybe that's why the GOPe hasn't said anything about our half-Kenyan president ?
