” The Oregon one was right on the plate boundary. “
I’ve seen somewhere (okay - ‘megadisaster’ doom&destruction shows on ‘History’ Channel...) that the Oregon segment of the subduction zone is overdue for a “Major” earthquake, 9.0 plus-or-minus....
Hope this isn’t a pre-shock for THE BIG ONE....
The thing with quakes is that we don't know when they are actually due.
They say that about the WHOLE West Coast!
I hope not as well. The Juan De Fuca plate is relatively small but the subduction zone is long and could produce a pretty big quake and related tsunami. I’ve read that the last quake produced a tsunami that did a lot of damage according to Japanese records. The geologists have found evidence that it went considerably inland along the Oregon and Washington coasts. I particularly wouldn’t want to live in Crecent City, CA which is kind of like a catcher’s mitt for waves coming in from the Pacific. It was the only US city damaged in the recent Japanese tsunami. One overly curious man drowned when the wave washed him off a dock.
