I posted this a few minutes ago on the World Magazine website. For those who don't know what World is, it's a major evangelical magazine whose leaders were key evangelical backers of President George W. Bush, and as members of the Presbyterian Church in America, have close ties with a number of top southern Republican officials who are PCA members or Southern Baptists who look to people like Dr. Al Mohler for leadership.

I suppose in the interests of full disclosure I ought to add that I attend church with one of the World Magazine staff members who is definitely not a Gingrich supporter.

Trying to convince evangelicals to support Newt Gingrich is going to be very difficult, but as South Carolina showed, it's not impossible.

I understand how much of a long shot this is, but speaking as a Santorum supporter until today, I see no choice left for evangelicals but to vote for Newt Gingrich.

What are we facing with a Romney nomination? At best, we're going to get Supreme Court picks like David Souter and Sandra Day O'Connor. More likely, we're going to see a repeat of 2008 and 1996 with McCain and Dole. Mitt Romney, who is already signaling his desire to “move to the center,” is likely to follow Dole and McCain in antagonizing the Republican base and thereby losing the election to a much worse Democrat.

At least we can say that Dole and McCain were legitimate war heroes, and were more or less pro-life through their political careers. Romney is far worse. Are we aware that Romney not only presided over the legalization of gay marriage in Massachusetts, but actually selected two homosexual judges out of his 36 judicial picks, and that the vast majority of his judicial picks were registered Democrats or independents who were contributors to Democratic candidates?

Abortion is a core issue for me. So is national defense. I am painfully aware of the problems with Newt Gingrich, but at least on those two issues, nobody can make a serious argument that Gingrich isn't an opponent of baby killers and Islamofascism.

To refresh everyone's memory of how Newt controlled the Mesa, AZ debate and highlighted that Obama is for infanticide:
