I doubt that. The fact is that by 1967 the MLK nonviolent integrationist approach was leading to serious racial reconciliation. The "New Left" saw this and recognized that their trump card, racial animosity, was in jeopardy. The Left, as a result, had King assassinated and blamed it on white people. The divisive Black Power leaders siezed the day. The rest is history.
