Is that the new Special Operations cartridge for urban fighting?
Correct. It was developed buy a group of special operations armorers and operators. The upper assembly swaps out for the 5.56, uses same mag well but does need it’s own mag.
Balisticly it is vey similar to 5.56 x 45 and 7.62x51 out to 300 yds. After 300 it degrades very quickly, but up to that point, it will deliver 46% more terminal energy than a 5.56 and I understand that terminal performance is on par with the 7.62 with the 6.8 SPC delivering much more internal damage. I can’t wait to test that on a live torso, deer or maybe even a panther, lol.
This rifle is usually assigned to a Designated Marksman. They call it the 200 yard sledgehammer because that’s the way the enemy reacts when hit, he is dead before he hits the ground. It fires a .270 caliber bullet at a relatively slow speed of around 2600-2700 fps.
