(CNN) Rick Santorum participated in two meetings with conservative leaders on Thursday which focused on his candidacy, but not on whether rival Newt Gingrich should end his, sources with knowledge of the meetings told CNN.
"There was some frustration about the fact that Gingrich wasn't in Wisconsin, and if his vote had gone to Santorum then Santorum would have won, but I would not in any way say that meeting focused on getting Gingrich out," one participant said. This source and others spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity because of the non-public nature of the meeting.

Santorum lost Wisconsin because of Ryan and Johnson, two popular and influential politicians, endorsing Mittens at the last minute.
Santorum and Newt would make a great team. Newt the brainy bulldog, who will tear his opponents to pieces and Rick the heart and soul that speaks to those who are concerned about the gays and pro-abortion people pushing their beliefs on our kids. Romney can have the rino 30% we’ll take the 70% conservatives.
Screw the a) Republican National Committee and GOP-e (Establishment), and b) the MSM insulting voters who have not been able to exercise their constitutional right to vote yet in many individual states in a primary or caucus, and may in fact not want Romney to be the nominee of their party or be dictated to that he will be the nominee, while there are still active GOP opponents on the field in play. How ludicrous of THEM to decide! WE DECIDE!
I say we give these two, joined at the hip (the Romney Group and the US MSM who want to set him up for the big class warfare fall to Obongo in November) need to be given the big middle finger and shut down ASAP. It can be done. Never forget Reagan, how Texas propelled him forward and how he had the Country Club Set plagued with the Hershey Squirts because he was able to excite the Base and turn the grassroots upon those arrogant, elitist, Beltway-type Moderate/Libs who cut too many deals with the Democrap Enemy.
A major big league GOP conservative pow-wow just occurred I heard, and the GOOD NEWS is that what has emerged is that Rick Santorum is staying in the 2012 race (only 1/2 over) to remain a sharp, irritative pebble in the boot of that phony Romney and do everything he can to deny him a First Ballot victory.<\b>
Let's not take this laying down. Let's not repeat 2008 history, but rather, let's show them our fight and our courage and our tenacity and a own "fire in the belly".
The other side of this meeting was that it was very focused on getting Newt out, on santorum supporters doing another of their nice-guy feints towards Newt supporters, and in the coming days, santorum’s friends at the meeting will start calling for Newt to leave the race - leaving rick free to do his my-hands-are-clean-unless-you-look-between- my-fingers routine that he does so well.
Beware!
ps I hope I’m wrong.
Oh, it’s the buzzard again spreading good cheer and warmth!
Not a bad idea, LF.
Love your passion, AIT.
The antidote to depression(which I’ve been fighting since Tuesday night) is to get mad and take action.
Here’s a message from Mike Biundo, campaign mgr:
I am emailing you to share some important news that will reset this race.
In Texas the Republican Party is moving today to change the primary there on May 29th to winner-take-all, meaning all 155 delegates will be up for grabs and awarded to the popular vote winner.
If our campaign wins Texas, and we will, the delegate gap with Mitt Romney will have closed dramatically and this campaign will head to the convention and be decided there. If we do not, our grassroots, issue based campaign together for a better America will end in the Lone Star state (hopefully nowhere near the Alamo).
Between now and the Texas we must do everything we can to make sure we win in places like Pennsylvania later this month and in states such as Kentucky and Arkansas so that we are able to sustain our momentum until Texas has a chance to vote.
Let me be clear: the final goal of our campaign is the defeat of Barack Obama. That’s why I ran for President in the first place and it is why I am continuing in this race until at least Texas.
I firmly believe Mitt Romney’s support for his Massachusetts health care mandate, Cap and Trade and the bailouts make him unelectable in the fall. We cannot afford a nominee that does not stand strong for our conservative principles.
We need a principled, Reagan conservative to challenge Barack Obama in the fall and nothing less.
Proud to stand with Rick,
Mike Biundo
Campaign Man
Last night we had the opening of our Santorum headquarters for Nebraska. Great turnout. Lots of people & especially young people. I was talking to a woman who has 9 girls and 5 boys. Most voting age. We need more people like her. People are so excited to help.
AIT. So what are you doing in Tokyo, if we may ask? Did you get your absentee ballot?
Santorum lost WI for the same reason he lost all the upper Midwest rust belt states in the primaries.
You forgot Scott Walker was elected?
You forgot Russ Feingold was tossed?
Perhaps you did not study the 2010 election results very well, if at all.
WI, OH, MI, all had wild swings to the red category including governors, state legislatures down to dog catchers.
Santorum’s love of unions and big gubmint fiscal liberalism did not fare well in the upper Midwest.
That rust belt - where Santorum is against right-to-work and pro union, his senate votes say enough.
Enough is enough.
I could support this ticket enthusiastically.
Gingrich seems open to this, but Santorum wants to fail alone. And, by going alone, he accomplishes nothing. What a guy!
And, sadly, a whole lot more votes.
I like Rick, but he's toast as a POTUS contender.
I don’t think you’re wrong, true believer. Worries me to death.
@gogogodzilla Someone (Santo supporter) posted on Right Scoop that they had heard that “massive Newt supporters were voting for Rick” in Wisconsin. If you take that + the dim tricksters & add Newt’s entire vote total, Mittens still won.
I’m just up to my neck with these Santorum supporters. I finally told one of them tonight that Texas Belongs To Newt. (& it does!)
Oh. I’m so sorry- I forgot who posted the Mike Biondo letter. 1. It’s not quite true. Go here to see the actual story

and 2. it looks like the RNC nixed it. See here
GO NEWT!
true believer, if you’re on the Newt ping list, please shout out to everyone- esp in Texas. Volunteers & donations are needed.
Yep. All six of them! ;-)
Very encouraging! Thanks for sharing.
Reagan had to do this in 1980 when things needed a major tweaking. He, too, had both the MSM and the GOP Establishment arrayed against him. It ended in jettisoning John Sears. Rick may have to do something along those lines, or something completely different. The conservative blue ribbon advisors he got to talk straight with him last night, heart to heart, are true, hardcore FR-type guys, folks, no need bashing them and sleeping with the enemy, Romney, at this juncture... ‘Lessen one was a lib or a RINO in the first place.
Okay, will do, and other pro-newt sites, also. Texas, if Newt can get there, really could be a game changer. There is a debate, I think, 4 days before the vote, and if it is only Santorum and Newt, that may be a good chance for people to see the Master v junior. Also, Perry is pulling all his state power together for Newt, even has filed papers for a PAC. this time the powers that be just may work for the outsider...
God Bless.
:-) PRAYING! and working. I am COUNTING on Newt taking Texas. Thank you sooo much for your hard work!! Love Y’All here! You are the greatest! (You really are- I’m not just saying that)
