Today is baseball's Opening Day. It's when the nation takes notice that once again, all things are possible, everything begins anew, past failures are but faint memories, and the future is bright and full of hope. This season, perhaps more than most seasons of recent memory, our home teams have reason to look ahead not only with great enthusiasm but also with justifiable optimism. Nor in Pittsburgh. Pedro Alvarez is looking like the biggest bust this side of Christina Hendricks.

My Dad likes to say, “all is right with the world on the opening day of baseball.”

Go Tribe!... and go Flying Squirrels (locally)

My home team broke my heart when they moved three thousand miles away to a new city(Not that I blame them, really). I am still a little embarrassed when I wear that cap. Los Angeles is very low on the list of cities I would live in or even visit. But it seems so disloyal to switch teams, especially now that I don’t really have a home town anymore.

The big question is, will the Pujols statue make it through the season?

I realize I'm probably the last person to find out about this, but I've just read that beginning next season interleague games will take place all season long. And that means the DH is on its way to the National League.

In fact, there is no longer a National or American League. They've been merged for years. This will just cement the deal. Why even have a World Series? I mean, there's just one big league now, after all.

And now the Astros are moving to the AL? Why not move the Brewers back to where they came from? Why the Astros, who have always been in the National League?

Looks like this is going to be baseball's final year.

I really hate Bud Selig. He has destroyed this game. I hope Obama appoints him ambassador to Iran or something.
