To: Alice in Wonderland

It’s to the point where when I thought I had raccoon in my attic I didn’t feel safe in saying “coon” as an abbreviation.

I grew up in a white area, never saw a black person (negro, back then) except for one woman who worked as a cashier in the grocery store. I called her the chocolate lady because she looked like a candy that was popular then.

The first time I heard the word coon, I asked my dad what it was and he told me it was a name some folks used to refer to chocolate people.
