You can’t live in fear. Most wild fires are set. I’ve lived through wild fires in San Diego City and County where the smoke and ash were so thick we couldn’t see the houses across the street and I was just a girl of 10 years old during the first one. We always lived cliff side with canyons below, so the brush fires would travel up the hillside rapidly toward our houses, but Praise God, our house never burned, but neighboring houses did.

As with anything out of our control, you have to evacuate and always be prepared to evacuate. Even now. Put the stuff you have to have in one place so that you’re always ready. Put treasured pictures in one suitcase for example.

When I was 10, I just took my dog and my baby books. :)

Good advice..I hate fires..! I lived in California for 10 years..Fires there are just terrible..I watched the Painted Cave fire come down the mountain in Goleta.. The destruction was awful.

That’s good advice. I think most wildfires are set as well, and quite a few house fires, too. The first thing I’d do is get my husband and the dogs out of the house and drive the car up the driveway.
