Sorry, Keith in Iowa, I agree with Hulka, and I think most reasonable people would. Using the term “gated community” conjures up the image of big, expensive houses, often with a manned security entrance. Not a complex of apartments or condos with locked gates to allow entrance. My neighbor has a second house in the back of his property which he rents out, and he has fences and gates to restrict access to both the houses. By your reasoning, that should also be referred to as a “gated community.” Words and phrases DO have implied meanings, and can’t always just be taken literally. And I believe like Hulka, that there is a hidden agenda in most of the media when using that term in this case, as difficult to believe as that seems to you.
