Most recent numbers I could find for Texas said about 1million+ for all license types in 2008.

But given Texas, with jillions of acres of groundhogs, etc that need killin', I'd say anyone counting on 'only' 1 million proficient firearms users would be waaaaaay underestimating.

Ditto re acres/varmints for a few other random western states I saw that showed about the same numbers as PA, WI, MI, etc.

Factoring in that more than a few states have separate licenses for small game and I'd guess the overall #s nationwide are much higher than for deer only.

All in all, not such good news for the 'get whitey' crowd.
